Established: 1867 Principal: Cheryl Walker
From the Principal’s Desk… Good afternoon families and friends,
Many thanks to all of the families, community members and staff who have made me feel so welcomed at Freemans
Reach Public School. Mrs Walker is currently unwell and I will be relieving as Principal while she is on leave. My name
is Allan Ison and I have been lucky enough to serve in the role of Deputy Principal at Caddies Creek Public School in
Glenwood for the past seven years. Prior to that, I spent 12 years as Assistant Principal at Beaumont Hills, Old
Guildford and Jannali East Public Schools. I have also relieved as Principal for extended periods at Seven Hills and
Kenthurst Public Schools over the past few years and feel truly privileged to have the opportunity to lead such a
vibrant learning community here at Freemans Reach Public School.
As I have said to the children at our morning assembly this week, it was interesting to read about the Freemans
Reach Public School learning community when this opportunity to relieve as Principal came up. It is an entirely
different (and more exciting!) privilege to get to work as part of this team and experience the fabulous learning
opportunities on offer for the children of Freemans Reach each day.
Already this week, I have been fortunate enough to tour the school to see our extensive facilities, visiting each of the
classes engaged in their learning along the way. I also look forward to seeing our students perform at the Hawkesbury
Dance festival this Wednesday night and getting to know our students, staff and community on Friday through the
colour run. What an outstanding array of learning experiences on offer for our students!
It is also worth mentioning that Friday will mark World Teacher’s Day, where we celebrate the relationship between
home and school and the dedicated individuals who work with our children each and every day.
Over the past 20 years as an Assistant Principal, Deputy Principal and Relieving Principal in different schools all over
the Sydney region, it has been my great pleasure to work with a vast array of truly talented teachers. If the first
couple of days are anything to go by, I look forward to my time supporting the ongoing educational journey of the
students of Freemans Reach Public School, as well as getting to know our community of parents and friends as they
are led by this highly engaging group of educators. Kind Regards, Allan Ison (Relieving Principal)

COLOUR EXPLOSION FUN RUN
Everyone at school is very excited about our
Colour Explosion Fun Run that is happening early
next term. Students have all been given notes and
sponsorship booklets. This is a fund raising event
so please help your child to safely collect
sponsorship for this amazing fun event. Meal deal
forms have also been distributed.
This fun day will be occurring in week 2, on Friday
25th October. We hope you will be able to join us
and maybe even help out.
SCHOOL HOURS AND SUPERVISION
Parents and carers, please be reminded that our
school supervision commences each morning at
8.25am. It is highly recommended that students
do not arrive at school before this time as
teachers are not expected to be at school before
then; if they are here they are working in their
classrooms on lesson preparation or in meetings.
It is not the responsibility of our cleaner to
supervise your children before 8.25am. From
8.25am, we have a teacher on morning duty and
at 8.45am a second teacher is rostered on as the
playground becomes busy. Any child arriving
before 8.25am is required to sit on the silver seats
on the back side of the administration building.
They are not to be playing with equipment or
moving about the school. This is a safety
procedure that we implement.
In the afternoons, all children are to attend our
end of day assembly and are seated according to
bus lines, waiters and walkers. It is important that
all students attend this assembly to receive
reminders for the following day and changes to
pick-up routines as phoned in by parents and
carers throughout the day. If you are collecting
your child from school, please be prompt. We are
finding an increase in the number of late pick-ups
and this impacts on teachers who have after
school commitments and families of their own to
collect. Once again, it is not the responsibility of
our cleaner or office staff to supervise students
after school.
Thank you all for your attention to these matters
and your ongoing support of our school and its
students.

BUS PASSES FOR 2019
We have been advised by NSW Transport that School student bus pass applications for 2020 open from Friday, 11 October 2019. Further information from NSW transport is below: Students progressing to year 3 and year 7 do not need to re-apply if they:
are continuing at the same school
are residing at the same address
have not been sent an expiry notification from Transport for NSW.
Where a student meets the new distance eligibility, the system will automatically update their entitlement. If they do not meet the new eligibility, they will receive an expiry notification. Students who have an entitlement approved under a medical condition which is due to expire will receive a notification advising them to re-apply. If students need to update their information or re-apply, they should go online to https://apps.transport.nsw.gov.au/ssts/updateDetails Applications need to be submitted before 31 December 2019 to ensure student entitlements are updated and their current entitlement/card is not cancelled. If their application is submitted after 31 December 2019, the system will automatically cancel a card and a new one will need to be issued. For further information visit https://apps.transport.nsw.gov.au/ssts
Students in the Opal network applying for a SSTS
or Term Bus Pass entitlement for the first time will
receive their card at their nominated postal
address. Cards will be mailed out from January
2020.

statements will be going home in the next few
weeks.

HATS
A reminder to all families that hats are to be worn
on the playground – before school, recess and
lunch times and also for school sporting activities,
as part of our sun safe strategies. Please ensure
your child has a hat and that it is clearly labelled
with their name. We regularly pick up hats that
have been discarded for varying reasons and we
do like to return them to their owners.

VISIBLE LEARNING One of the major components of our Visible
Learning journey is the understanding of
Learning Dispositions and how they help us to be
effective learners. The next disposition we want
to share with you is I am Patient and Persistent.
This poster is displayed in each learning space
and teachers have conducted specific discussions
around how being patient and persistent can
make us better learners. You may like to have
similar discussions on how being patient and
persistent can be implemented in the home
environment.
