FREELANCE & MEDIA MAKEUP ARTISTRY COURSE (18 WEEKS)

Thank you for your interest in The Pout Academy! We started this course because we want to share our passion and help you pursue your goals in whatever avenue of makeup it may be. Whether you have experience or not, you can never stop learning and perfecting your craft. Our course is designed for everybody: if you have a love for makeup and simply want to learn how to do it on yourself, friends and family; or whether you want to turn these classes into a skill and build a new exciting career, we will advise and guide you in every way.

We can offer something totally innovative, that is as rewarding and more up-to date than any college course. With classes that are based on upcoming trends, techniques and celebrity influences you will be at the forefront of the makeup industry. Your training will be for just over 4 months though we must stress that makeup artistry can't be rushed. You cannot learn to be a makeup artist in a week nor will you ever stop developing once you have trained. This course requires you to stay motivated and practice as much as you can if you want to reach your potential.  

Our goal is to make your time with us fun, enjoyable, knowledgeable and for you to take away with you a skill and hopefully some friends :)

THE CLASSES

The class runs once a week, daytime or evening (please confirm with one of the tutors to check which is available). The classes run in small groups with 2 tutors so we can assure that everyone gets the help that they need. The classes are roughly 3-4 hours long. We start with a 40 -50 minute demonstration and theory when appropriate. Notes and product breakdown will be provided with every look. You will then be paired off to replicate the look demonstrated whilst we guide you through the process. Each week you will work on someone different: in this industry you rarely work on the same face twice, unless they are a regular client, so it is essential to learn to work on every skin type, colour and shape. Each class will be a different look therefore it is essential to attend all classes. As the course goes on you will progress onto harder techniques: the classes are designed to have you working as developing artists and you will find some things harder than others. There is no pressure and you can move at your own pace. Please remember it's only makeup... It does wipe off!

Things you will need to bring to every lesson:1) A notepad and file. Every week you will be given notes on the look, we suggest you file these for future reference.2) Face wipes or cleanser of your choice.3) Mascara. This is to prevent eye contamination or any infections that can arise from sharing.4) Any makeup that you have. This is optional as everything will be provided you need to do the looks. However, if you want to start creating a kit we will help you build the best kit possible and show you how to utilise what you already have.

BASIC LESSON PLANS WEEK 1 –5 SYLLABUS 1:FASHION & EDITORIAL SKIN , CONTOURING, BRIDAL

We start the course with the canvas of the face: SKIN! You will learn the importance of skin and how many different looks you can create on the skin. This syllabus is quite theory intensive however it is vital in preparing you for the rest of the course. You will cover:

· Knowledge on the science of skin and how to prepare it for makeup. · How to choose the correct shade foundation · Technique in applying foundation · Brand Knowledge in Primers and Foundation · Colour correction, pigmentation and concealing · Contouring & Definition · BRIDAL: Learn how to tailor create and develop a look for brides and design complimentary looks

for bridesmaids. We discuss time management and how to differentiate your pricing for weddings.

All looks will also include an eye and a nude lip of some variation. Your goal is to start completing makeup looks within an hour.

WEEK 6-15 SYLLABUS 2: EYES, LINER & LIPS

Moving on to what may be considered the most striking element of any makeup: the eyes. This syllabus will cover as many eye shapes and styles as possible. As the syllabus moves on so will the technicality. We will push you to work outside of your comfort zone to produce the highest quality work.

· BENDING. We will talk about how to take colour up to the brow bone seamlessly, product placement, application and amount .

· Typical "going out" looks. Take the eyes that you have learnt in previous weeks and take it to the next level.

· Learn how to create depth and mix textures. · Work with a wide range of products and brands from pencils to gels, to creams. · Technical and fashion eyeliners · Applying bottom lashes, individual lashes and layering lashes. · Transformation makeups such as Asian Bridal.

During this syllabus you will get the chance to work with Pro Products and glitters. You will be assessing looks and discovering how to break looks down to recreate. All this will prepare you for your final exam. Throughout the course we will help start to prepare you for life working in makeup and how to start boosting personal business. By this stage we aim to have every student ready to go out into the working world of a Makeup Artist.

WEEK 17 & 18 COURSEWORK, PRACTICAL & THEORY TEST

On your final lesson you get chance to showcase all the skills you have learnt in the 16 weeks. You will do a short written assessment and then a practical test. We will assess you on your accuracy, quality, time management and product selection. We like to give you feedback and providing you have completed all 18 lessons you will then receive your certificate*. **All 18 lessons must have been completed to receive your certificate. Any missed lessons must be caught up.

FURTHER OPPORTUNITIES

During the course of your training we do encourage you go gain work experience; getting out there is the best way to learn what it's really like to work in the industry. We invite all our students to come into the salon on a typical busy day to watch and learn from all our artists. We prepare trainees on how to carry out a consultation; how much time to spend on each client as well as appropriate people skills. Most of our graduates also enjoy having 1-1 lessons with some of our senior artists towards the end of their course. These prove very beneficial before completing the coursework and final exam and are available to book hourly with all our senior artists at £50 an hour.

In the ever growing makeup Industry it is essential that you are prepared to take it on after your 18 weeks with us. To give you the best possible head start in your career we have teamed up with one of Manchester’s best graphic designers to give you the opportunity to BRAND your business on a pay weekly basis. Payment Option 1 -Full advance payment of £1950Includes all 18 lessons (at £100 each) and reservation/admin feePayment Option 2 -£550 Deposit*This includes your reservation/admin fee and 4 pre paid lessons which will be used against the end of the course. -£100 each week from lesson 1-14.At this point your last 4 lessons of the course are now pre paid.
