World Book Day
SATs workshop to parents on Thursday 3rd March
Thank you to all parents who attended and for your very positive feedback from the KS2 SATs workshop. The documents that were presented on the evening are now available on the school website through the Year 6 blog area. These can be downloaded and can be used to support your child at home.
On World Book Day, we were visited by the local author Martyn Ford to talk to us about his debut novel 'The Imagination Box'. He presented an exciting assembly, getting us to think about what we would create out of the imagination box if we could have anything at all - the ideas ranged from a mini unicorn to £1000! He then worked with a group of Year 3 and 4 pupils to develop their own ideas for a story. Lots of copies of his book are available in the library if you did not purchase a copy and would like to read it.
Before and After School Provision
Can we reassure parents that we will be continuing to offer before and after school provision for our
children. Our current review is to ensure that we offer the highest quality, most cost effective provision for
families and the school. More details will be sent to parents after the Easter holiday.

Year 3 Trip to Butser Farm
Year 4 Trip to Sea City Museum
To start our new topic for this half term ‘Tragedy at Sea,’ Year 4 went on a trip to the Sea City Museum, Southampton. On this trip we had a tremendous time learning all about the luxurious liner The Titanic. We explored the museum with our group leaders and were then given a guided tour by one of the knowledgeable museum staff. We also had the chance to find out more about the Titanic through a workshop led by the museum which made us think about what it would have been like to have been on the Titanic and what happened to some of the passengers and crew. Luckily, on the coach back we didn’t hit any icebergs!
On Tuesday, despite the wet weather, Year 3 had a fantastic day out at Butser Hill Ancient Farm, to launch their new topic ‘Invaders’. At the farm year 3 explored round houses and Roman villas as well as making jewellery and wooden fences. Year 3 are beginning to understand what the Romans bought to Britain and how the Celts lived. They will be continuing to explore these ideas in their topic work over the next few weeks.

Medicines in school
New guidelines from the Department of Education regarding the administration of medicines in schools.
We can now administer prescription and non prescription drugs such as calpol/eye drops to a child if the parent has completed and signed the parental agreement form available from the school office and supplied the school with the required medication.
Also the new guidelines state that all medication that is administered during school hours must have a completed parental agreement form. We are unable to administer medication without the permission form being completed and the medication has to be in the original packaging. All prescription medicines will need to be in their original packaging stating the childs’ full name, name of the medicine, dose/directions (i.e. 5ml, 3 times per day) and the expiry date. Non prescribed medicines (i.e. calpol/eye drops) will also need to be in the original packaging stating the expiry date.
