Vacation Bible School 2010 turned

out to be an awesome week! We had a

class of 27 that dug into the book of

James to find out what our lives

should look like when we are followers

of Jesus. Using real life examples,

movie clips, and skits, we got to really

understand what God wants from us.

The first night we saw that God

gives us what we need, and one of

those things is wisdom. A wisdom

that’s usable in real life, sometimes

makes “uncommon sense”, and that

makes us more like Jesus. We also

saw that God calls us to choose a

side: Him or The World. We can’t

expect to have the wisdom of God

when we are loyal to the things of this

world. (lust, selfishness, gossip...)

The next night we saw that

following Jesus meant not just taking

in God’s Word - but putting it into

action. Yes, we can’t earn our way into

heaven, it’s only by faith. But a true

faith will call us into action.

So actions speak louder than

words right? But the third night we

saw that our actions ARE our words.

Everything we say needs to pass three

tests: “Is it true?” “Is it loving?” and “Is

it necessary?”. We MUST get that right

because we saw that even though our

tongues are small, they have big and

sometimes disastrous results.

All these things are achieved by

what we learned about Wednesday

night - being close to God. We saw

that if we wanted to do that, we have

to humble ourselves, resist the devil

and his temptations, and let God

change our hearts and minds. Finally,

the last night we learned how to pray.

A big part of getting close to God is

knowing how important prayer is and

what it can do in our lives. God used

VBS to set up a foundation of truths

that we hope will have a big effect on

how we live our lives as followers of

Jesus Christ. I encourage you to take

a look at James and examine yourself.

The goal of the Freedom Student ministry:

Although it’s hard to sum up everything into one short statement; the basic goal ofour group is to develop relationships with God and each other. By learning about theBible and choosing to live our lives like Jesus Christ, we can make a difference in thelives of people around us. We do that through many different types of events. Week inand week out we dive into God’s word and figure out how it applies to our lives andhow we can use it to become closer to Jesus. We take trips and experience thingstogether so that we can build healthy and happy friendships and enjoy life as followersof Jesus. We also go out into the world and show the love of Christ by serving those inneed. All of these things are important if we are to live our lives as God has intended. So if you are a teenager reading this, we hope you know this isn’t just a place to be

so you’re not getting in trouble or a place to make you feel guilty. This is a group ofencouraging friends helping you figure out those tough questions in life. We also areliving proof that being a Christian teen doesn’t have to be boring!

If you are a parent reading this, we hope you realize how important it is for your teento have the accountability and influence that comes with a group like this. You havestrong men and women of God praying and serving your family, because that is whatGod has called us to do. So ask questions, get involved, and trust God!
