March 2019 Freedom of Information Request Reference No: FOI 000312-19 I write in connection with your request for information received by Norfolk Constabulary on the 21st January 2019 in which you sought access to the following information:

“For the years 2013- ‘14, 2014 - ‘15, 2015 - ‘16, 2017 - ‘18 and 2018 - 14.12.18, please provide the number incidents of animal thefts recorded by your force in each year, broken down by the species or type of animal stolen.

Please provide a copy of free text report for each incident recorded.

For your information, multiple forces FOI teams have so far responded using a helpful format detailing the category of animal - ie "livestock" or "poultry" or "bird of prey", details of the specific breed and details of the crime incident.”

Response to your Request The response provided below is correct as of 7th February 2019 Norfolk Constabulary has located the following information as relevant to your request.

1. One unknown male has climbed through a wire mesh fence into callers back garden, into the chicken pen and stolen 2 chickens.

2. Theft of chickens from coop in field, rural location 3. Person/s unknown have entered chicken coop and

removed six Bantam hens 4. Overnight persons have unlocked the back gate to

the garden of the property and stolen 8 live chickens.

5. Unknown person(s) have broken lock off shed on allotments and stolen approx. 8 chickens

6. Unknown person(s) have taken 3 chickens from penned off area in the garden

7. 3 x female bantam chickens taken overnight from their coop.

8. Unknown person(s) have cut through the fencing securing the field and be-headed approximately 30 chickens. They have left the heads on the ground and taken the bodies of the chicken.

9. Person u/k has entered the chicken enclosure overnight and stolen 11 hens from their nesting boxes. The cockerel was left behind.

10. 5 x chickens have been taken from victim’s side paddock at his address.

1. Outdoor aviary shed appears to have been broken

into - birds either released or stolen & eggs smashed. Approx. 60 canaries + up to 45 eggs.

2. Unknown persons have accessed garden. Three panes of glass to a large greenhouse housing canary birds has been broken and access gained 15 canary birds have been taken each bird is worth about £30.

3. Victim states that during the above crime times, her Maroon Bellied Conure parrot has been taken from her house.

4. Unknown susp has cut wire to an Aviary and removed 3 Budgies.

5. At night in a residential street budgie and cage stolen from unlocked porch by unknown means

OWL FROM INFTS OUTSIDE AVIARY IN HIS GARDEN.

unlocked animal pen and stolen 9 baby turkeys from within.

2. During hours of darkness unknown persons have entered the business yard of the victim and stolen 10 to 20 poultry birds (turkeys) to the value of £1000.

1. Person removed Jack Russel dog from PH car park 2. Theft of Dog English bull terrier whilst running loose

in a public place 3. rural location Jack Russel puppy theft from small

holding 4. During the afternoon a black/tan coloured

Rottweiler dog has been taken without permission from IP's garden.

5. Victims Rhodesian Ridge-back dog has been left outside ASDA stores whilst victim goes in to store. CCTV shows a male take the dog to a car and drive off.

Cats

6. Informant’s cross Springer/Jack Russell 10month old dog, originally thought lost however received a call from a friend stating that they had seen a car outside address and saw suspect in the car pick up a brown and white dog and put it in the front of the car.

7. I/P reporting theft of his dog, had left his dog tied up outside, he has come out to find the dog has gone

8. Persons unknown have entered shelter where puppies are being reared. Offenders have then taken a puppy and left by unknown means.

9. Opened outside dog kennels resulting in one of the farm's spaniels running off and later found and a female spaniel still missing, presumed stolen.

10. IP has loaned her Pedigree Staffordshire Bull Terrier dog to the suspect who has then rehomed it without permission.

11. Theft of a puppy from IP`s garden 12. Suspect (ex-partner) has dishonestly appropriated

the victims 3 dogs. 13. Jack Russel Schnauzer cross stolen from back

garden. 14. Person/s unknown have stolen callers pug dog from

his front garden. 15. Suspect said to have taken a collie/staffy cross

puppy without permission. 16. Suspect has entered rear garden on foot via

unlocked gate and taken Blue French Bulldog belonging to the victim from kennel.

17. A male red Cocker Spaniel working dog disappeared from secure kennel overnight.

18. 2 escaped dogs (Lurcher & Jack Russel) which have been reported as missing have been advertised for sale on Facebook.

19. The dog was only left in the garden for five minutes when stolen

20. Between the above stated times unknown persons have entered the rear of the farm and gone through a bolted gate and removed 2x high value grey hound racing dogs.

21. During hours of darkness female party reports that her ex-partner has returned to their shared property and removed her Staffy dog

22. 6 x Dogs have been taken from a Farm. The Dogs taken are 2 x Springer Spaniels (male and female) and the female’s two pups. Additionally there are two pregnant Border Collie Dogs that were also taken. Some of the Dogs were chained up.

1. Litter of four two week old kittens inside. The litter

of kittens were taken along with the bedding they were sleeping in.

COLLAR ON A CAT, SUBSEQUENTLY THE CAT HAS BEEN MISSING BELIEVED TO HAVE BEEN STOLEN

1. pet tortoise of 27 years was stolen from back garden

1. 2x Rabbits taken from secured hutch which is in

communal area outside victims flat. 2. u/k person/s have stolen IP's pet rabbit from a

hutch within the rear garden. IP states rabbit was a rare breed and may have been stolen because of this.

3. Overnight sheds have been broken into on a property - items stolen from one of the sheds including 2 rabbits.

4. Person(s) unknown have on two occasions gained access to a field where victim keeps various rescue animals and stolen two rabbits and causing minor damage to a hutch in the process

had 40 to 50 coy carp stolen from a pond in the back garden

informants property which is currently empty & taken in excess of 20 goldfish

1. Two unknown males have attended the fishing

lakes and have fished for carp without permission.

1. Numerous fish stolen from pond by unknown means. 40 fish, mainly koi and goldfish

2. Removal of quantity of Fish from garden pond by unknown means. 13 fish, mainly koi and goldfish

3. Two boys were removing fish from an ornamental lily pond in a park using fishing rod and line - The fish are the property of City Council and there are notices on site to say that fishing is not allowed.


Cattle Sheep

1. During the evening hours a Belgium Blue and Aberdeen Angus cow have been stolen from a field and all the other cows have escaped through the open gate.

1. Person/s have entered a secure paddock behind a

locked gate and removed 3 sheep. Believed to have happened overnight.

2. SHEEP HAVE BEEN STOLEN BY PERSONS UNKNOWN.

3. Between the times stated, unknown person(s) have stolen a sheep from the farm yard.

4. Informant reporting theft of twin female lambs, aged 2 weeks old, valued at around £25 each, kept in a field, 1/2 mile away from where caller lives

5. Persons have killed and skinned a sheep and stolen the meat. Also taken a further ram from the field.

6. Offenders have stolen 7 Llyen Ewes from a secure field, by unknown means. The owner believes they would have stolen to order for Hogget.

7. Unknown persons have removed a 5 week old lamb from its mother which was in an enclosed area.

8. I/P believes unknown persons have entered farm land and stolen 3 lambs but unknown means.

1. Owners report theft of 21 year old white Shetland

pony. 2. 3 various size horses have been stolen 3. reporting her horse, a BLACK and WHITE cob

2. Unknown persons have entered the plot on the allotments and have then stolen two chickens.

4. During hours of daylight unknown person has entered the victim's land and when challenged made off with 12 chickens.

5. In a residential setting a chicken which was kept in a fox proof run has been stolen from the front of a property.

6. During hours of darkness at residential location chickens and hutches stolen from rear garden by entering through insecure gate.

7. During hours of daylight in rural location cockerel stolen from enclosed run by unknown means.

1. Overnight persons unknown have broken off

padlock from outdoor aviary and stolen 12 Canaries.

2. Unknown person/s have entered victims garden and entered aviary and stolen 3 birds from within. 2 cockatiels and a Bork(small parakeet)

garden and taken a mating pair of Barn Owls.

1. Overnight from the rear garden of a domestic dwelling two ducks have been removed from a cage. 1 was a Cayuga.

1. Unknown persons have ripped the mesh to the

pheasant pen and have taken 12 Pheasants from the pen

1. Victim believes u/k suspect stolen 3 doves from his

front garden overnight

1. During hours of darkness suspect at a farm has entered a shed and stolen all the turkeys (hundreds).


Dogs

1. During hours of darkness victim’s Airdale dog stolen whilst on walk by person(s)/method

unspecified. 2. The victim claims that the dog has been taken as a

form of retaliation. 3. The victim’s Jack Russel Cross did not return when

called believed taken. 4. During hours of darkness in a residential location a

pet dog (Pug) has be taken from the front garden of a property.

5. At night person(s) unknown have accessed the victim’s garden and stolen 2 Tibetan Mastiff dogs.

6. During hours of darkness suspects have forced open a summer house type wooden construction and removed four dogs from within. Pedigree dachshunds belonging to a breeder.
