Freedom in Society Essay

Everything has two sides and that freedom of speech should be in a free society is not an exception. The discussion of freedom of speech as the necessary thing is very important because it could make the society better or worse.

Many people believe that freedom of speech should be limited so the government could implement their plan well. For example, few years ago when Soeharto became president, Indonesia was a country which was peace and almost no demonstration to protest government. The limitation of freedom speech had a great impact to Indonesia economy because government could think and plan well without worrying that the plans would be rejected. It made society and a nation peace without any violence.

Others, however, believe that limiting freedom of speech is also limiting people to live. Due the fact that human is a social creature, one of basic human needs is to speak freely. Even the people, who is deaf and cannot speak, communicate each other with the sign language. It show that socializing is very important and to support that, freedom of speech should be necessity.

The nation without sovereignty of speech has tendency to dictatorship or inequality social life. One who can speak clearly and freely is only the president, king or leader. It means that everyone who does not support him/his should keep silent. This could make the leader become dictator.

In conclusion, this writer believes that freedom of speech is necessary in the free society. Limiting it could limit our right as human and it could make the society unequal. Only the leader can talk freely.
