What does a Search Engine do?
SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) is where you adapt and moderate a website specifically so that it is indexed and ranks highly within an engine's organic (free) listings.
Why do websites need to be optimised for Search Engines?
● Drive Traffic to your website, so it can be found by people interested in your products or services!
● Search Engines primary responsibility to serve relevant results.
● ⅔ of traffic from Search Engines comes from organic (free) searches.
Consumers research online, but buy locally● 97% of people search for local businesses online● The top 3 positions receive 80% of the clicks.● Less than 1% goes beyond 2nd page of a search● 83% of people using local sites will follow up their
research with offline action - visits, emails, phone calls or purchases.
What are people typing in to Google to find businesses like mine?
● Use Google’s Keyword Tool - https://adwords.google.com/KeywordPlanner/
● Other keyword generators such as Ubersuggest - http://ubersuggest.org/
● Use Google Analytics / Webmaster Tools● What do people ask you when they call or visit your
business?
On Page Optimisation
● Meta Tags - title, description, keywords● Headlines containing target keywords● Image names containing target keywords● Descriptive link text - not “click here”!● Content is King - regular updates with unique content
that aims to solve your users’ problems ● If the keyword is not on your website you WON’T be
found for it, no matter how good your technical SEO and link development efforts are.
Off Page Optimisation● Being Mobile Friendly is a requirement!!!● Social Media - social shares can increase your
reputation - think of it as free marketing or networking with potential customers
● Customer Reviews - Google+, Facebook, etc● Improve website quality● Page speed● Links to your site from other quality websites - the more
you get the higher your web page will rank on Google
