S tudents enjoy playing this oral langage game! All the players are practicing their simple past tense verbs while playing this engaging board game.
•Game Cards (Use cards for just one sound of “ed” or all 3)•Game Board•Number Cards
Play in groups of 2 to 4.
The objective is to be the first player to reach the finish line.
Shuffle the game cards and put them face down on the draw pile. Shuffle the number cards and place
them face-down on the gameboard. Each student chooses a game piece. Use colored cubes, beansetc. for game pieces. Students draw a number card to see who goes first. The player who draws thehighest number is the first to play. Play will go clockwise from the first player.
•The first player draws a card from the draw pile.•Player reads the card outloud and finishes the sentence.•Player places the card face up on the table for all to see.•The group repeats the sentence outloud correctly as a chant.•If the player is correct she/he draws a number card and moves her/his game piece that number of spaces.•If the player answers the question incorrectly, she/he loses a turn and play goes to the next player.•Play continues until the first person crosses the finish line.

Students play in small groups or whole class.
The objective is to be the player with the most cards by orally giving the correct simple past tense verb .
Shuffle the game cards. Choose one student to be the “teacher”. The “teacher” holds the cards.
•The “teacher” draws a card and reads it to the first player.•The player finishes the sentence using the correct simple past tense verbs .•The “teacher” places the card face up on the table for all to see.•The group repeats the sentence outloud correctly as a chant.•If the player is correct she/he gets the card.•If the player answers the question incorrectly, she/he does not get the card and it goes to the back of the deck and play goes to the next player.•Play continues until the deck is finished. while playing this engaging old fashion “Go Fish” game.
•Game Cards (Use cards for just one sound of “ed” or all 3)•Word Cards
Play in groups small groups.
The objective is to be the first player to lay down all cards.
Select some of the word cards and the matching game cards depending on the size of your group.
Shuffle the game cards and deal out five cards to each player. Students roll a die to see who goes first.The player who rolls the highest number is the first to play. Play will go clockwise from the first player.Make sure your students are using correct grammar and game phrases. “I have a pair”, “Do youhave?”, and “I won”!

The objective is to be the player with the most cards.
Choose some of the word cards depending on the size of your groups. Shuffle the word cards and putthem face up on the table in rows and columns. The “teacher” uses the Game Cards to read from.
•Students sit with their hands on top of their heads waiting for the teacher to call out the sentence on thecard.•Teacher reads the sentence on the game card.•The first student to slap the card that has the correct simple past tense verbs keeps the card.•After the simple past tense verbs word card is slapped the students say the sentence outloud finishing

S tudents practice pronunciation of simple past tense verbs with this fun activity!
•Game Cards (Use cards for just one sound of “ed” or all 3)
Play whole class.
The objective is to repeat the sentence correctly.
The “teacher” uses the Game Cards to read from. Whole class have your students stand up. This activityfocuses on pronunciation and oral practice of simple past tense verbs so listen to your students careful-ly. Introduce the simple past tense verbs you are working on. Make an overhead of the game card andtalk with the students about it’s meaning and what the word is. The following routine is a fun “out of
your seat” activity to practice the pronunciation. Students pretend they are at the gym lifting weights.
•Say the phrase as you pick up arm weights.•Pump the weights as you read “Today I talk, but yesterday I talked.”•Exhaustedly put the weights on the floor as you repeat the phrase.•Wipe the sweat from your brow as you say the simple past tense verb .

the consonant, and add “ed” (patted).•If the verb ends any other way just add “ed” (add/added)

Fishing For The Past!
DIRECTIONS:• Roll a die to see who goes first.
• If you go first, ask another person if
he/she has the match to either your word
card or your phrase card. Remember if
you have a word card ask for the presenttense, if you have a phrase card ask for
the past tense verb card.
• If you get a match, then lay the pair down on
the table you can take another turn.
• The game goes on until someone lays
down all their cards.
They End in “ed”!DIRECTIONS:
• Roll a die to see who goes first.• If you go first, draw a card from the draw pile.
• Read the card outloud and finish the sentence.
• Place the card face up on the table for all to see.• The players all read the sentence outloud
correctly as a chant.
• If you were right you draw a number
card and move that many spaces.
• If you were wrong you lose a turn and
play goes to the next player.
• Game goes until someone crosses the finish line.
Weighty Words!DIRECTIONS:
• Say the completed phrase as you pick up
the arm weights.
• Pump the weights as you recite the
phrase (today I walk, but yesterday I
walked.)
• Exhaustedly put the weights on the floor
as you repeat the phrase.
• Wipe the sweat from your brow as you
say the phrase.
Slap It!DIRECTIONS:
• Sit with your hands on your head and wait for
the teacher to call out the sentence.
• When the teacher calls out the sentence, the
first player to slap the card that has the correct past tense verb, keeps the card.

tence out loud, finishing with the right past
tense verb.
• If you slap the wrong card, you have to sit out

Teacher, TeacherDIRECTIONS:• Roll a die to see who will be the teacher.
• The teacher reads one sentence card at a
time.
• If the player responds with the correct
past tense verb they get the card.
• The next “teacher” is the person who
collects the most cards.
Draw It!DIRECTIONS:
• Choose a timekeeper. The players draw a
word card.
• The timekeeper gives the players 30 seconds to
sketch a picture that represents their word.
• The timekeeper collects the drawings andword cards and lays them both face up.
• Playing in a clockwise rotation the first player chooses a
picture and word card they think go together. The
“artist” of the picture confirms or does not confirm their guess. If the player is correct he/she keeps the
word card. and play goes to the next player.
•The player with the most cards wins!
