ell, we are certainly in unusual times…So, in this issue we try to celebrate the coming of Beltane and the new beginnings it offers,

whilst recognising that many of us will be under more stress than usual. We can learn ways to embrace the garden, flowers and outdoor spaces (within social distancing limitations), alongside Goddess Maia.

So, we take a look at crystals that can be used for healing in times of anxiety. We also investigate journaling and the way it can help us to still be grateful even in difficult times.

We spend time focusing on health as well, ways to boost our immune system to guard against infections, but also putting a spotlight on Hay Fever that will make its seasonal appearance.

Carol is back with horoscope predictions for May, and we feature readers Ruth and Norma. Both are readers you could turn to if you are struggling with relationship problems just now - something else we spend some time on this month.

Health BenefitsActivities such as journaling are creative and they allow us to switch off from daily life pressures. They also give us an opportunity to re-frame the day, and see that even amongst the stress and chaos there were happy moments. They also remind us that ‘this too shall pass’, and that better times are ahead.

Why now might be the perfect time to start journaling…Did you keep a diary as a child? Or do you consider writing down the day-to-day activities of life slightly cringe worthy, aka - Bridget Jones?

Well, either way - now might be the perfect time to consider writing a journal. Life has changed for many of us recently, and a journal can be one way of getting our thoughts on paper. But journals can also be so much more than that:

Of course, a journal can act like a diary - as a record of the events of any given day, along with your emotions.

But they can also act as a reminder of your goals and ways you want to self-improve, as well as mark successes on your journey.

You can add targets and planning, whether that is things to do at work, projects around the house, money aspirations etc.

They are also a fantastic way of documenting gratitude, reminding us of the small every day things that fill our hearts with joy.

I decided to follow my spiritual path seriously some years ago after realising that my life just wasn’t working the way I wanted it to. As far back as I can remember I have always been aware of the spirit world. I just didn’t know at that time how to apply it to my own life and how to share my gift with others. But I had always felt that I should be giving something back to the Universe, and giving telephone readings allows me to do this – to speak to people about something divine.

Beltane As I write this article the UK is coming up on three weeks of lock-down, with no end in sight. So, no doubt we could all do with a lift and Beltane on the 1st May provides just that. Traditionally an ancient Fire Festival, celebrating creativity, fertility, growth and new beginnings.

It is unlikely there will be much dancing around the Maypole this year, but there are still ways that we can embrace the month of May and enjoy the two bank holidays.

Traditionally people placed ‘wishes’ into the Maypole ribbons, where they were left for the coming year to come to fruition. Why not try making your own wishing ribbon? Take three strands of ribbon or string, plait them together, and entwine any written wishes on little bits of paper.

In celebration of the season we also take a look at Goddesses. Starting with Goddess Maia. Very fitting for the current circumstances Maia was often depicted as a nurse and mother - essentially a protector of womenfolk.

Goddess Maia had seven sister siblings, legend says that Zeus changed them into birds, that produced the Pleiades constellation! Maia would often be presented flowers alongside the Goddess of Flowers (Flora) during the Floralia celebrations - to rejoice in the season of spring.

You can invoke the spirit of these spring Goddesses by spending time in your garden or even cultivating a window box and of course watering and tending to your plants. Why not also try walking barefoot on the grass, make daisy chains with your children, cut flowers to bring inside, or even wear them in your hair.

You could also try leaving offerings for the animal kingdom, whether it is some seed or berries for the birds. Or even a shiny coin, some honey, or crystals - that may very well encourage fairy folk and nature spirits to visit your garden!

Whilst social distancing is no doubt changing the way we celebrate occasions, this is a great time to revel in the women in your life - praise their love, strength and friendship. Light a candle as the sun goes down, and embrace and honour the universal energy.

What do we know so far?

The Friends Reunion show was being produced to help the launch of a new streaming service for HBO Max in May 20. At the moment it looks like HBO Max will still launch. But we will have to wait and see if the Friends get-together airs. There seems to be mixed messages reported as to whether it was filmed already, or whether it was delayed due to social-distancing measures for Covid-19 in place.

It’s been 16 years since the original Friends show ended on NBC. It burst onto screens in September 1994, and after ten seasons ended in May 2004.

The original cast members: Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, and David Schwimmer will gather at Warner Bros. Studios where they originally filmed Friends.

What will the show be like?

Many fans over the years have called for a re-launch of the show. This is something that the writers, producers and cast have resisted. Often saying it was perfect as it was, and of its time and no one wants to see the ageing cast try to recreate their roles.

Of course, many shows have had re-boots, sometimes with original members and others with a completely new cast. These shows often have varying degrees of success. So, no none can blame the Friends team for not wanting to tarnish such good memories.

There was much speculation about just what the Friends Reunion might look like, but a recent interview with Matt LeBlanc seems to clear up some of the mystery. He appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show and described the reuniting as “We got the band back together without the instruments.”

It looks as if the 6 main cast members will be together for an ‘out-of-character’ panel discussion. Which is believed to be totally non-scripted. So essentially, the actors reminiscing about their time on the show.

Where can you watch it?

Friends picked up many new fans as a result of the full ten series streaming on Netflix. But that recently came to an end, in a deal to take the back catalogue off Netflix and move it to HBO Max, at a rumoured cost of $425million.

It is difficult to say at this stage whether the general public will be able to access the Reunion Show in any other way than through the new streaming service - so watch this space!

Despite the fact we are all spending a lot more time indoors than we used to, the seasonal sniffles, that is hay fever is still upon us.

Hay fever was once something more associated with childhood, maybe even something you grew out of. But more and more adults get hay fever symptoms for the first time, perhaps as late as middle-age - signs suggest this will continue to be the case over the coming decade.

Moving to a different area, pollution and even being deficient in Vitamin D, can all be factors why you might suddenly suffer. Hormonal changes, and also ageing is a factor - as our immune systems may not be as robust as when we were younger.

Atopy GeneIf you suffer with other conditions like asthma, rhinitis and eczema - then this means that you carry the ‘Atopy’ gene, so you are predisposed to allergic conditions and developing hay fever at some point in your life becomes more likely.

So, why does hay fever happen?Essentially our body’s immune system thinks that pollen particles are harmful to us, so it makes allergen antibodies to fight the attack. Unfortunately, this process releases chemicals throughout our airways, eyes and nose. The resulting symptoms correspond - breathing difficulties, watery eyes, runny nose and sneezing, to name a few.

Pollen SeasonsThere are different types of pollen throughout the season that affect sufferers. Around 95% of people with hay fever will have it triggered through grass pollen (May-August). Weed pollen will impact around 20% of people (June-September) and tree pollen is implicated in 25% of cases (February-June).

TreatmentsAntihistamines, eye drops and steroid nasal sprays are the typical pharmaceutical treatments. Nasal salt water sprays are also effective at clearing pollen from the nose. A swipe of Vaseline under the nose to trap pollen before it enters the nasal passages can be effective. Many people swear by eating local honey (1 tablespoon per day) before the season starts. Marshmallow Root and Nettle Extract are herbal remedies that have offered some relief.

• Feelings
