CURRICULUM PACKET & DVDDeveloped by educators Laura L. Kudo, M.A., and Amy Laubenstein, Ed. M., allows students to explore the effects of their everyday behavior on the environment, their health and well being. The lessons are geared for grades 4-12 and correlate with the different chapters of the Bag It DVD: Single-Use Disposables; Waste and Recycling; Oceans; Human Health; and Activism. PLAN, PLAN, PLANCreate a realistic and concise timeline to ensure a smooth fundraising experience. Include your start and end date as well as your deadlines. Work with our fundraising specialist to create a plan that works best for you.

HAVE A KICK-OFF ASSEMBLY A school wide kick-off assembly is a great way to get students excited and on board with fundraising efforts. Emphasize that this is not only good for the school, but for the planet! Make it fun by involving the teachers in relay races or “bag stuffing” competitions to see who can stuff and unstuff a ChicoBag® brand reusable bag the fastest!

HAVE BAG MONSTER® MAKE AN APPEARANCE! The Bag Monster costume is a great way to get everyone excited about fundraising efforts and provides information in a fun way. SET UP A DISPLAYSetting up an eye-catching display using the samples and posters provided in your ChicoBag starter kit creates a great reminder for parents and keeps people motivated to sell. Choose a high traffic area of your school such as the cafeteria or near the office to create the most visibility.

INCORPORATE THE FUNDRAISER INTO LESSON PLANSIncorporating fundraising into lesson plans will help students apply what they learn. Once they understand the problems associated with single-use disposables, they will be excited about the solutions and be more motivated to create change. PRIZES AND INCENTIVESProviding small prizes or incentives early on promotes friendly competition and keeps students from becoming discouraged. Group prizes such as a pizza party or a fun class outing for the classroom who sells the most bags or raises the most money is a great way to create a sense of teamwork to reach a common goal.

KEEP PARENTS IN THE LOOPAn email or newsletter to inform parents of the fundraiser gets them on board. Include important dates and details to ensure they are aware of the timeline. Throughout the fundraiser send reminders out with updates on how fundraising is going and reiterate important deadlines.

GET SOCIAL Have parents and faculty reach out to their friends and family through social media or email to help spread the word. Relatives near and far can help support the school’s fundraising efforts!

COMMUNITY OUTREACHContact your local news and newspaper to see if they are able to do a piece on your fundraiser. Ask our fundraising specialist for our media alert template to help get you started.

TRACK FUNDRAISING PROGRESSBuild a thermometer or other visual to represent how many bags (or how many $) have been sold. Students can celebrate their success by submitting updates on a daily or weekly basis.
