Saturday, May 29Day of the Honey Bee
Communities across Canada cele-brate May 29 as Day of the Honey Bee to honour New Zealand beekeeper and mountaineer Sir Edmund Hilary's ascent of the summit of Mount Everest on that day in 1953.
The Day of the Honey Bee recogniz-es the importance honey bees play in human survival and daily life, and the partnership between the province and BC beekeepers to improve agricultural production, and monitor and maintain bee health.
At the NV Farmer's Market, hon-ey vendors and the Nicola Valley Arts Council invite you to celebrate these friendly little pollinators this weekend. Beautifully-decorated bee boxes will be on display throughout the market, which were handed out into the commu-nity and painted by local artists who are competing for prizes donated by mem-bers of the Nicola Valley Arts Centre.
40 new strata lots at Nicola Lakeshore
Three properties on Monck Park Road need to be rezoned from C-4: Rec-reational Commercial to LR-2: Lake-shore Residential Multi-Family to enable a multi-family strata subdivision of 40 single family dwellings for residential and/or traveler accommodation use. It also amends the LR-2 zone to allow a restaurant; an entertainment establish-ment; retail sale of convenience groceries and household items; and a caretaker’s residence.
The public hearing is scheduled for Thurs, June 17, 1:30pm and will be live-streamed on TNRD's Facebook page.
BC Wildfire Service firefighters deployed to Manitoba
On Wednesday, the BC Wildfire Ser-vice sent 41 firefighters and 2 support staff to Manitoba to help with firefight-ing efforts in that province.
COVID-19 precautions will be taken to protect the health of everyone partic-ipating, both during their time in Mani-toba and on their return to this province. Firefighters will remain within their own ‘bubble’ and conduct operations sepa-rately from Manitoba’s firefighters.
Given the current fire situation in BC, there are sufficient resources in place to respond to any wildfire activity here.

Cab Colors. Two cab drivers met. "Hey," asked one, "what's the idea of painting one side of your cab red and the other side blue?" "Well," the other responded, "when I get into an
accident, you should see how all the witnesses contradict each other."Why Bother. While my third-grade class was completing a writing exercise, one of the stu-dents asked me how to spell "piranha." I told him I was unsure. To my delight, he went to
the dictionary to solve his problem. That's when I overheard another pupil say to him, "Why bother to look it up? She doesn't know how to spell it anyway."
Working At the Office "How long have you been working at that office?" "Ever since they threatened to fire me."
