Following on from the success of our 2009 collaboration, Fred Perry have teamed up with seminal bands The Specials to create two new styles. Released in anticipation of the band’s European 2011 tour, the two styles stay true to the band’s ethos of ‘black

and white unite’ with their monochromatic styling and subtle chequerboard detailing.

A special editiion t-shirt features the band’s logo and tour set-list printed on the back, and both styles feature our iconic Laurel Wreath embroidered with black and white leaves. Celebrating the unique relationship between Fred Perry and one of the most influential bands of the last century.

The exhibition will take place at the Chelsea Space gallery from 24th January - 3rd March 2012.

Legend has it that a Chelsea local was wandering down the King’s Road about five or so years ago, only to see Bob Dylan standing puzzled outside

the dry cleaners that now occupies number 406. After plucking up the courage to ask what was wrong, Dylan replied: “Didn’t there used to be a great rock ‘n roll clothes shop here?” The shop in question was Johnson’s, the iconic fashion store which had operated at that spot for more than two decades; selling carefully crafted designs that changed the face of popular music from the 60s to the 00s. Owner and designer Lloyd Johnson dressed everyone from Tom Waits and Keith Richards to the Sex Pistols, The Clash and The Specials; with even Jack Nicholson and Fred Astaire becoming fans.

Paying homage to the work of the designer is Paul Gorman, who has curated the exhibition Lloyd Johnson: The Modern Outfitter at the Chelsea School of Art and Design. Celebrating Johnson’s position as one of the central figures operating at the cross hatches of popular music and fashion design; the exhibition is centered on his core archive of garments, artwork and personal items, with key clothing from customers and collectors around the world.

SPRING/SUMMER 2012

Laurel Wreath CollectionThe SS12 Laurel Wreath Collection

hosts a selection of contemporary modernist designs, with a focus

on attention to detail. Staying true to the collection’s forward-thinking ethos, this season shows a preference for architectural silhouettes and construction.

Key styles include fine gauge cotton knitwear, with a new ‘stop-start’ interpretation of our signature twin tipping. Layered over tailored shirts and teamed with slim trousers the look is flawless: encapsulating the collection’s sharp aesthetic and reinvigoration of classic menswear styles.

Two Wounded BirdsA song about not growing

old, with all the horizon gazing escapism of

small town youth; Margate’s Two Wounded Birds return with ‘Together Forever’ due for release October 31st on Moshi Moshi Records.

In its purest form, rock and roll has always been the music of the outsider. A snub to the mediocrity of mainstream norms and aspirations. Yet, in a world where marketing rules and rock ‘n’ roll are commodity, a band has become a nu-folk sensation and where leather-clad poster boys pose in front of Triumph Bonneville’s. But for Two Wounded Birds, there’s always

been Vince Taylor on the stereo and Elvis’ picture on the wall. There’s no marketing strategy, no friends in high places, no favours to pull in… They are from Margate don’t forget.

So with the benefit of isolation, as wave after wave of next big things engulf our cities, singer Johnny Danger has quietly amassed a mountain of classic records in his sleepy corner of

the country, collecting everything from doo-wop to New York punk of the late 70’s. From this fountainhead of pop, Two Wounded Birds have emersed themselves in the defining sounds of the last 60 years to create their own micro-community in a generally unreceptive hometown.

This all-encompassing love of rock and pop has instilled the band with a fervent appreciation of melody and a deep reverence for music production and their lovingly crafted idiosyncratic sound. Just listen to their Radio1 play-list single, ‘All We Wanna Do’ and try to get that melody out of your head, or ‘Night Patrol’ and try not to catch a chill.
