BIOGRAPHICAL AND SUBJECT SUMMARY:

Frederick M. Harris, who later achieved the rank of brigadier general in the U.S.Army, served as a lieutenant with the 15th Infantry Regiment in Tientsin, China, in the1920s. Among his superiors were then-Lieutenant Colonel George C. Marshall and then-Major Joseph W. Stilwell.

The Harris Collection includes correspondence (1961-1967), typescripts ofarticles, and publications concerning his service in China. Harris later described his Chinaexperiences in three articles; one of these concerned Marshall, and the others mentionedMajor Joseph W. Stilwell. In the 1960s Harris corresponded with Charles G. Finney, whowrote about his years with the the 15th Infantry in The Old China Hands. Among thepublications are Edwin Forrest Harding's book of poems about his China days, includingone written by Marshall, and the 15th Infantry's Snapshots a/China, which reproduced anumber of photographs.

Frederick M. Harris, who retired from the United States Army with the rank of

brigadier general, served as a lieutenant with the is" Infantry Regiment in Tientsin,

China, in the 1920s. Among his superiors were then-Lieutenant Colonel George C.

Marshall and then-Major Joseph W. Stilwell.

The Harris Collection (1921-1967) includes correspondence (1961-1967),

typescripts of articles, and publications concerning Harris's service in China. He later

described his China experiences in three articles; one of these concerned Marshall, and

the other two referred to Stilwell. In the 1960s Harris corresponded with Charles G.

Finney, who wrote about his years with the the is" Infantry in The Old China Hands.

Among the publications are Finney's The Old China Hands: Edwin Forrest Harding's

book of poems about his China days, including one written by Marshall; and the is"

Infantry's Snapshots a/China, which contains a number of photographs.
