Kicking o the singular Frederatorexperience required quite a character, andthanks to one --illustrator/designerextraordinaire Arlen Schumer-- we got theother --our singular company robot,

the Fredbot. When Arlen gave us the git o a companybirth notice, he crossbred some severelybushy eyebrows, Gigantor's nose, and ourascination with the inuence o modernposter innovator Frank Kozik. Masterartist Patrick Raske provided the color and aMichigan silkscreen printer was engaged.

Frederator Studios, with assistant StephanieStephens, came to be in North Hollywoodon January 6, 1997, with our frst cartoonsreleased in 1998.

    Frederator New Year's Posters

The last 30 years haven't been kind to commercial posters, broadcastingand the internet have made them virtually extinct. But art poster seriesare alive and well with a vibrant ollowing and Frederator likes being

part o that select group with our (sometimes) regularly released NewYear's posters.

    New Year's 2002

Frederator's expantion to a New Yorkofce around the turn o the century seemedlike a perect moment to inagurate our NewYear's poster program. And our expandedpersonnel roster (or building out media onthe internet) suggested the perect execution.

Patrick Raske pulled o this digital take on anold school letterpress poster, oten associatedwith boxing, circuses, and old rock'n'roll andcountry music concerts.

    New Year's 2006

Artist Frank Olinsky and Frederator ounderFred Seibert have been riends since they meton a dirt hill in Fred's backyard in October1955. They've grown up to collaboratehundreds o times, notably on the iconicMTV logo.

When Frank wasn't sure he could meet ourthree week deadline, but three days later thisappeared in our email boxes. A sculpture ostyrooam, plastic cups, straws, andcardboard, it also marks the frst time ourrobot was christened, in Frank's simple, unique way, the "Fredbot."

And to complete a circle, production andprinting contractor Will Dunnigan was thethird childhood neighbor who lived inbetween Fred and Frank.

    New Year's 2008

2008 was a big Frederator year, the 10thanniversary o the release o our frstcartoons. Finally, our tongue in cheek slogan,"Original cartoons since 1998," would havesome meaning behind the humor.

Naturally, we turned to our closestdesign partners o the decade, Sean Adamsand Noreen Morioka, to help memorialize inart direction. In their careul, but never tooserious, manner, they oversaw every detail othe soda/beer can illustration right through tothe gorgeous silkscreen production. It's beenseen ramed in more ofces than any o ourother posters.

    Channel Frederator &Next New Networks

Frank Olinsky was commissioned by NextNew Networks (Channel Frederator's

distributor) to design a series o limitededition posters or advertisers and riends othe company. The only limitation was that allthe images had to be created with his hands,a slam dunk or a resourceul artistlike Frank.

He reerred back to the Fredbot he createdor our 2006 New Year's poster, and laid it

out in an homage to a amous ElvisPresley singles collection. But it wasn't 'hand'enough, so Frank took a marker and retracedall the robots.

My Life as a Teenage Robot

"For our frst movie-length special we wantedto create a stylish opening title sequence that ftour pulp-y, sci-f title. I thought that it wouldbe neat i all the visuals or the titles evoked thesensationalistic ballyhoo and graphics o 1950'ssci-f promotional material. Then, at the end

o the sequence we could pull the camera backto reveal that all the elements ormed a giantmovie poster. Shawn and Joseph Holt workedhard to help me complete all the individualpieces used in the animation, and the wholething came together rather nicely. As a sideeect, we ended up with an already completedposter design, which we printed up as a comic-con giveaway." -Alex Kirwan

    Drinking and Drawing Events

One night, internet animator Dan Meth had a great idea. Heopened a tab at a bar on the Lower East Side o Manhattan witha light box, a Sharpie, and hundreds o index cards. He was goingto drink beer and draw until he had enough or a flm. "Drinkingand Drawing" became the most experimental cartoon in his hitFrederator series The Meth Minute 39.

It also gave Fred Seibert a 'Eureka' moment. Animators need toget together more oten, so why not set up an actual animationevent? Starting at the 2007 Platorm Animation Festival, andirregularly in cities across America, Frederator has sponsoreda night o jamming artists. 100 intrepid souls draw animationsequences on eight to fteen cards and hand o their last drawingto the next jammer. The cards are scanned, edited, and scored andthere's a cartoon!

    What A Cartoon!/World Premiere Toons

In 1995 BF (Beore Frederator), Fred Seibert was the President oHanna-Barbera Cartoons, where he launched his frst innovative cartoonshorts incubator, What A Cartoon! on Cartoon Network. He elt thatcartoons and, maybe more importantly, their creators had been unjustlyignored or too long, and dedicated the studio to publicizing these shortsin every way possible.

Great posters were the most visible way he could fnd. Modernizing themovie studio one sheets that accompanied classic theatrical cartoons, studio creative director Bill Burnett adapted the original art rom theflms into the modern rock poster styles introduced in the early 1990s.
