VERGNET GROUP
• 20 Years of experience in wind and solar
projects grid connected and off grid
• Specialized in renewable projects in remote
areas on an EPC basis.
• Owner patented technology
• Achievement of the first wind project in Nigeria,
grid connected. Katsina wind farm, Katsina state
10MW
Tetiaroa – Polynésie française
FUNDAMENTALS FOR RENEWABLE
PROJECTS DEVELOPMENT : 1st step
• General political will to diversify the energy mix.
• Renewables are a stable source of energy at
constant OPEX prices.
• Identification of the natural resources through a
general masterplan by national entities
• Initiation of the first projects by national entities
• Training of local technical partners, development of
local know how through public/private partnership.
• Development of local fabrications as much as
possible through public incentives.
• Do not use sound effects, they slow down
slide transitions and the noise from projection
computer may distract audience.
FUNDAMENTALS FOR
RENEWABLE PROJECTS
DEVELOPMENT : 2nd step
• Opening of the market for private players : IPPs
for grid connected projects.
• Grid connection facilitation
• Stable legal frame for green IPPs with attractive
feed in tariffs according natural resource.
• Legal securement of PPAs / bank able projects
• Stable legal frame regarding import duties on
necessary imported equipments.
• Stable land law and land permits facilitation
• Do not use sound effects, they slow down
slide transitions and the noise from projection
computer may distract audience.
WIND AND SOLAR
MORE PROJECTS WITH HIGHER
PENETRATION RATIOS WITHOUT
STORAGE
• Wind and solar are fluctuant sources of energy.
• Risks of blackouts are high when overpassing
30% of wind and solar penetration on isolated
grids or weak grids without adapted technology
and know how for grid management.
• Storage costs are still very high despite
technology latest enhancements.
• Maximizing the penetration ratios make projects
more feasible and more cost effective.

Capacity factor with safety margins
Max of wind (4,4 MW) and
Test of unforeseen transient events :
• Disconnection of one or several wind turbines
• Disconnection of the whole wind farm
• Starting of power load
• Disconnection of loads
• Disconnection of one diesel group
Risk of blackout
Impossible C = (Pload - Pgenset) / Pwind
Min load for diesel: 800kW (4MW each)
Wind farm maximum (12 m/s) : 4,4 MW
Nouadhibou : Actual average penetration of Renewables since June 2013 (no storage)
Conclusion
• Fundamentals are necessary for renewable
projects development
• Hybrid controlers are necessary to maximize
renewable penetration ratios on average on
weak or isolated grids without any risk of
blackout.
• Business plans are then more attractive for
IPP’s and savings for utilities are increased.
• Costs of storage of energy do not allow to make
large projects economically viable.

Presentation guidelines
• Please do not number your slides
• Each slide should have a title
• 9 lines max on a text slide
• Maximum 10 words per line
• Caution: Red, orange or yellow lettering and
lines become unreadable when projected.
