Preparatory School Christmas Concert

On Tuesday evening, members of our community gathered at the Balmoral Campus to be entertained by the talented students from the  Preparatory School.  We thank and congratulate our students for their confident and enjoyable performances.  It was wonderful to experi-ence their innocent exuberance and delight as they shared their talents with those in a endance.  The students were certainly a credit to themselves, their College and their families and we were immensely proud of each and every student.   Such an event cannot happen without an enormous amount of organisa on and planning.  We especially extend our thanks to the  reless and selfless staff and some parents of the Preparatory school under the leadership of Sabrina D’Cruze (Head of Preparatory School) and Sally Watkins (Assistant Head of Preparatory School), many of whom worked behind the scenes.  We thank each and every one of them for their personal contribu on to the concert.  A very special thank you is extended to Chris an Tang and Jamie from Footsteps Dance Company for preparing our aspiring singers and  dancers so well and to the many staff and students who assisted with the prepara on and conduct of this event.

Vinnies Christmas Appeal Christmas is the  me for love and celebra on with the family. What be er way to end the year than with feasts and fes vi es?    In the last few weeks, the College has partnered with St Vinnies to ensure that local families in need get to have the memorable Christmas they deserve.  Dona ons will soon be wrapped up in hampers and delivered to families ready for the holidays.     The Vinnies Christmas Appeal is about rebuilding strength in the men and women experiencing disadvantage this Christmas.  It is one of the many appeals that run throughout each year, all benefi ng our society in different ways.     With over two million people living below the poverty line in Australia, including over half a million children, your dona on allows the  St Vincent de Paul Society to provide more than immediate help. It brings something much more valuable – the opportunity of a be er life.    We thank all those who have donated so far!    The Vinnies Group

FEAST OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION

The Feast of the Immaculate Concep on is on 8 December and has been cele-brated since the beginning of the 7th century.  This feast celebrates the dogma (teaching) of the Catholic Church that the Virgin Mary was free of original sin from the moment of her concep on.   God's plan of salva on started even before Our Lady was born and was put into mo on with the birth of Mary.  "In fact, her immaculate concep on leads us to that precise moment when Mary's life began to palpitate in her mother's womb."  Pope Francis teaches us: "Already there was the sanc fying love of God, preserving her from the contagion of evil that is a common heritage of the human family".   This feast always takes place in the context of Advent that is a  me of wai ng and expecta on for the fulfilment of the promises of God.  With this feast God shows us that something has been accomplished in the person and in the life of the Virgin Mary.  In her humility Mary accepted the will of God emp ng herself and making space to be filled with God's grace, to the point that the Word becomes flesh inside her.  She is indeed the "handmaid of the Lord" reflec ng the beauty of God, which is all love, grace and self-giving.  This year in Rome and many other ci es the tradi onal acts of venera on had been cancelled due to the pandemic but we should all make a spiritual gesture expressing our filial devo on to our Heavenly Mother.  Fr Jesus Bello College Chaplain, Duncan Street Campus
