Picasso Cow Our school has been lucky enough to be selected by Dairy Australia to be a participant in their Picasso Cow competition. As you wonder through our school you may notice a life size fibreglass cow grazing somewhere. The idea behind the Picasso Cow Competition is for the students to come up with a design that we can paint on our cow. The theme we have been given is „From Farm to Plate‟. The students are also required to make a journal about the life and adventures of this cow. The judging of the Picasso Cow will be in September at Opal Cove so let the fun and adventure begin. Picasso Cow Naming Competition As our cow does not have a name we are starting a naming competition. Any one may enter but it will cost you $1.00. The funds raised will go towards purchasing a cow for an underprivileged family through World Vision. The students will receive an entry form to bring home and return to their class teacher with their $1.00 entry fee. The next general meeting will be held on Wednesday 13 June in the staffroom at 4.00pm. All welcome to attend. Due to nutritional guidelines of the Fresh Taste at School NSW Healthy School Canteen Strategy, LOL‟s, ice bites and jelly cups will no longer be sold at the canteen except on party days. Sharlene has a selection of delicious seasonal fruits available every day. ICE CUP FUNDRAISING

The Support Unit is continuing to fundraise. So this Tuesday

lunchtime, ice cups (20c) and cups filled with popcorn (30c) will be

for sale near the support unit. Bring your spare change!

At 11:00 am tomorrow in our School Library, Stage 1 will join other young-

sters from all over Australia as we participate in “National Simultaneous Storytime”. Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Aus-

tralian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools,

pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other

places around the country. The 2012 National Simultaneous Storytime

book is The Very Cranky Bear, written by Nick Bland. In the Jingle

Jangle Jungle on a wet and windy day, four little friends meet A VERY

CRANKY BEAR. Can they cheer him up?

CAR PARK

The following is an extract of a letter sent to the school by a Grand-

mother picking up her grandchildren from school. It reinforces our

request for parents to park on Centenary Parade near the bus bay to

drop off or pick up their children. It is also still preferable that par-

ents walk up the ramp and wait in the quad to pick up their children in

the afternoons and walk them back to their cars.

Whilst talking to the gentleman at the barrier, I noticed many other cars driving up to the barrier, their children alighting from the cars at various points down that road. These cars (and there were other cars lined up behind) then had to reverse down the road, there were other cars attempting to reverse out of the car parks, children walk-ing behind cars, taxis attempting to exit the school after dropping their passengers. It was a dangerous mix. My observations (and I have studied OH & S and served on several Safety Committees and in that capacity conducted many Risk Assessments) led me to believe that this situation is a disaster waiting to happen, a young child will walk behind a car being reversed down that hill and not be seen. I would not normally comment on a situation like this as I believe it is school business but for the time I watched the comings and goings of the cars …… I noticed so many potentially dangerous situations where children were being placed at great risk, these being compounded by so many cars trying to reverse at once.

Mr Rumsey wowed everyone with his fire twirling

PLAYKINDY

Today was our first Playkindy for 2012 and it was wonderful to see

six families join us for the morning. The children enjoyed a range of

indoor and outdoor activities with Sarah Bush, Lee Symington and

Candice who is here on practical experience from Southern Cross

University. The parents enjoyed morning tea in the Cultural room and

heard all about what Frank Partridge VC offers to students from Mrs

Parkins and Nerida. They also joined the senior students who were

engaged in a formal debate via Video Conference link with another

school.

We hope more families can join us for Playkindy next Monday from

9.30-11.30am.

Frank Partridge VC Debating Team Successful

in First Video Link Debate!

Talyssa Furner-King summed up for her team extremely well

Congratulations to our debating team who presented excellent

arguments against the statement „School Uniforms should be banned.‟

They were a professional, well organised and confident team for the

negative. Each speaker listened carefully to Chatam Public School‟s

arguments for the affirmative and were able to present strong

rebuttals to support their reasons for keeping school uniforms. The

audience, from Mrs Leahy‟s and Mrs Smith‟s classes were outstanding

as they listened to both sides of the argument and showed their ap-

preciation for both teams. Well done to the following students:

1st speaker: Flynn Franklin-Baker, 2nd speaker: Riley Hayden,

3rd speaker: Talyssa Furner-King

Chairperson: Caroline Higgins, Timekeeper: Beau Langford

Technology: Yvonne Parkins, Adjudicator: Lissa Tardiani

A special thank you to Lissa for being our guest Adjudicator and giving

constructive feedback that will assist both the team from Chatam and

from Frank Partridge VC to improve their debating skills……..
