DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY

Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM)is used in many high data rate wireless systems• Immunity to selective fading

• Resilience to interference

• Spectrum efficiency

• Resilient to ISI

• Resilient to narrow-band effects

• Simpler channel equalization

SAMPLE QUESTIONS

Digital TV Migration in the Philippines is in full swing eversince the Ceremonial Digital Switch On (DSO) last 2017. Aregional approach to implement the Analog Switch Off (ASO)is targeted. What is the sole standard adopted by thePhilippines for Digital TV Broadcasting Service?

Integrated Services Digital Broadcasting – Terrestrial (ISDB-T)

Page 19: Framework of the Digital Terrestrial Television ...

SAMPLE QUESTIONS

According to NTC MC 02-03-2016, Sale and Labeling of ISDB-T Receivers, Annex A, the Integrated Receiver shall offer atleast one antenna terminal input, type F, unbalanced, withimpedance of how many ohms?

75 Ohms

Page 20: Framework of the Digital Terrestrial Television ...

SAMPLE QUESTIONS

NTC MC 04-06-206 has been issued in relation to the currentallocation for UHF broadcast from 512 MHz - 698 MHz whichis insufficient to support all broadcasters to provide bothanalog and digital TV services. AS such, re-allocating a rangeof frequencies for the migration will provide room for thesmooth introduction of DTTB services. What is this range?

470 MHz - 512 MHz

Page 21: Framework of the Digital Terrestrial Television ...

SECTION 1. ALLOCATION

As provided in MC No. 04-06-2016, the 470-512 MHz band (or “Channels 14

to 20”) has been re-allocated for the deployment of Digital Terrestrial

Television Broadcasting (DTTB) Service.

A. Use of Unassigned and Unused Allocated TV Broadcast Channels for TVWS Technology

1. DICT shall be allowed to use the unassigned and unused VHF TV broadcast channels in

the implementation and operation of ICT projects of the government including but not

limited to the “Free Wifi” project.

2. The use thereof shall be a secondary and strictly non-interference basis and must accept

interference from the VHF TV broadcasting service to which the band is allocated on

primary basis. The TVWS radio stations and devices shall immediately cease operation

upon receipt of a Notice of Interference Report from the NTC.

3. TV broadcasters shall have priority on the channels such the assignment of any channel to

such entities shall automatically have the effect of recalling its use from DICT.

ISDB-TSection 1.1 Digital Terrestrial Television Broadcasting (DTTB) – An implementation

of the digital technology in the television service intended to provide a greater number

of Standard Definition Television (SDTV) channels and/or better quality of picture (e.g.

HDTV) and sound (e.g. ACC, EAC3, Dolby Digital) through a conventional aerial

antenna instead of a satellite or cable connection. It also pertains to Digital Terrestrial

Television (DTT).

Section 1.2 integrated Service Digital Broadcast Terrestrial (ISDB-T) – A flexible

digital television (DTV) transmission system that is capable of providing three (3) levels

of hierarchical modulation that can carry audio, video and data services to fixed, mobile

and handheld terminals using a single transmission facility with an integrated

Emergency Warning Broadcast System (EWBS).

REALIZATION OF NEW SERVICES

Page 41: Framework of the Digital Terrestrial Television ...

Enhancement of Mobile Phone Services

Realization of a Safer Road Traffic Society

Expansion of New Multimedia Services

Support the radio-wave needs of mobile phones, which continue to increase• Even more people can use mobile

phones• Advanced functions, such as

transmission of large amounts of data, can be realized

• Based on the above, use of mobile phones is even more convenient

Secure radio waves for accident prevention systems right before they occur• Avoid collision accidents at

intersections with poor visibility (Communication between vehicles)

• Avoid rear-end accidents based on provision of information from roadside communication devices, etc. (Communication between the road & vehicles)
