Money• The most common application of math is money and personal
finance.• If you’ve ever balanced a checkbook, compared loans to buy a
car, or set up a retirement account, then you have had to call on your skills in decimals/fractions/percents to help you.
American Money• In the US, our money is based on dollars and cents. • One cent is represented as $.01, with a 1 in the hundredths
place, because it is 1/100th of a dollar.
• Notice “cents” is from the Latin centum meaning a hundred.
Sidenote: Korean Money• 1000 won= 1 US dollar
