The process of adding liquid at high pressure under Earth’s surface rocks and holes made to drill water or oil to force open existing opening made by breaking the surface and extracting oil or gas.

Pros and Cons Pros

• We (America) can finally be energy independent

• Using natural gas releases fewer carbon emissions than coal

• Big business= many jobs

Cons

• Could poison the groundwater

• May deplete fresh water sources

• Ruin the rural areas of America
