AROUND THE DIVISION

MEN’S CAMPING TRIP 2014 A great weekend of relaxing at Burrinjuck Waters State Park for the 2014 Men's Camping trip - Friday 7th to Sunday 9th March. Present were: David Eyles, Howard Smartt, Gary Masters, and John Scarano from DHQ; Ned Jones from Wagga Wagga; Rod Parsons from Albury; Peter Davey from Booth College and Colin Kingston the Rural Chaplain. Phil McCall from DHQ also joined us on the Saturday for the afternoon.

Although great exploits were planned, the only fish caught was a lovely Atlantic Salmon with Aioli Sauce at the Yass Soldiers Club for the Saturday night dinner. The weather was perfect except for a down pour on Saturday night which battered and bruised Phil on his ride home- apricot sized hail stones !!

But aaaaaahhhhh the serenity. Mostly we sat around and chatted. I felt that the break was well deserved and needed and needed!! Spiritual input was provided in the form of a Lectio Divina devotional from Howard which gave us a structured way to meditate on various passages of scripture. As usual all good things do come to an end and everyone headed home on Sunday. Some of us enjoying the Canberra Day public holiday to catch up on some chores and gardening. The next Men's event will be a Men in Leadership Golf day "The Hackers Classic" in July/August and the Divisional Men's Camp at Jindabyne in November. Hope to see you there.

WORLD DAY OF PRAYER 2014 On 7 March people all around the world set aside time to pray for the Women of Egypt. In our Division two Corps hosted the event, Canberra City Corps and Young Corps, and women from other Corps attend the event in their area.

Canberra City opened its doors to 67 women and men as they gathered to pray, under the title of Streams in the Desert. The service was prepared by the Christian women of Egypt and four of our younger ladies dressed in outfits depicting old Egypt and the present day Egypt. This together with the beautiful décor helped transfer the congregation to Egypt to pray effectively for our sisters that are normally so far away. Major Eileen Holley ® led the morning service with support from the Divisional Headquarters ladies. Major Robyn Smartt was the guest speaker and spoke about the transformation that we see all around us when rain breaks the drought, and compared it to the transformation that God can make in our own lives.

A divisional quartet assisted with the singing, while Captain Fran Everitt played the piano. A highlight was the singing of the Lord’s Prayer by the quartet. We thank Major Eileen Holley, Major Robyn Smartt, the World Day of Prayer Committee, Australian Church Women ACT, hosts Captain Tracy Payne, Captain Noel Payne and the Canberra City Corps, for playing a part in such a lovely morning.

ABOUT PEOPLE

WAGGA WAGGA WOMEN’S RALLY - WEDNESDAY 12 MARCH2014 Ladies travelled for up to 2 hours on a beautiful sunny morning, fresh from a fall of rain to meet together and find out about God’s Grace Notes.

The day started with a delicious Morning Tea provided by the Wagga Wagga ladies, a fellowship time as each Corps arrived needing refreshment from the journey. Ladies from Albury, Grenfell, Griffith, Leeton and West Wyalong were happy to meet together with the Wagga Wagga ladies and catch up.

At 11.00 am everyone moved into the main hall for a time of worship, laughter, singing and learning. Opening with a video that provided plenty of comment and laughter the ladies relaxed and turned their attention to God’s Grace, joining in the singing of Amazing Grace heartily.

Major Karen Smith prayed and then each Corps present took their turn to read a verse based on Grace.

Majors Robyn Smartt and Karen Masters sang “Your Grace Still Amazes Me” before Major Karen gave her testimony. Karen spoke about early memories, these were mostly about songs and stories learnt at Sunday School, and how throughout her life there were people encouraging her with written Grace notes that continue to bless her even after time has passed.

Major Sandra Lesar(R) read the Bible Reading of Ephesians 1, which led into a drama from two of the Wagga Wagga Corps ladies. A lady covered with sin didn’t know how she would be cleaned, until a cleaning lady came along to wash away each stain, her

name is Grace. This appropriately led into Major Robyn Smartt’s message.

Major Robyn spoke of God’s Grace Notes for us. Through God’s love He gave us Jesus. Jesus gives Grace, Jesus gives Hope and Jesus Transforms. She said, “Inside each caterpillar is the DNA for a beautiful butterfly,.. inside each person is God’s DNA.”

The final song proclaimed “Christ is Enough.”

Thank you to all involved and especially to Lieuts Bindy and Marco Lupis and the Wagga Wagga Corps for their fabulous hospitality and expertise with the technology.

Aux-Captain® Graham Bruce is still having some issues around his recovery following surgery a number of weeks ago. Please keep Graham and his wife Helen in your prayers.
