YOU RESTORED OUR LIFE
In the pain and sadness brought about by my father’s death, I found great comfort in the Res-urrection story. The big boulder of stone has been rolled away, and Mary of Magdala tells us that the tomb is empty. In due time, the light of the resurrection will scatter the darkness of pain and fill my heart with the light of hope and new life. The Resurrection story challenges us to trans-cend every experience of separation and sad-ness, pain and loss. When the other disciple who runs with Peter to the tomb peers into the sepulcher, he sees and believes. Mary Magda-lene is overcome with grief and sorrow over the disappearance of Jesus’ body. Her heart cries out to see Jesus in her desire to take hold of his corpse. She gives voice to the sentiments of people who have lost a loved one or are buried in the darkness of pain. “Where is Jesus? Where is my Teacher?” The eyes of Mary Magdalene will later open to the truth that Jesus lives in all his disciples. She will continue to see Jesus in the Apostles, in the women who have rushed to the tomb with her, and in herself. The “seeing,” the opening of one’s eyes of faith, does not happen in an instant. In fact, the Gospel is precise in saying that Mary Magdalene and the Apostles do not yet understand the Scripture that Jesus must
Rise from the dead. In due time, Mary Magdalene
will receive something much greater than what she
has pleaded for. She will not get back a corpse; she
will experience new life! Jesus will restore Magda-
lene’s life; she will see and believe.
We will see Jesus not only in the resurrection on the
last day. We can see Jesus even now in one anoth-
er if we use our eyes of faith and start caring for one
another. If, like Mary Magdalene, we choose to walk
by faith and follow the example of Jesus, he will re-
veal himself to us as the risen Christ.
I like to believe that in his full life on earth, my dad
lived by faith in Jesus, tried to follow his path, and is
now back in the infinite love and mercy of God, the
author of Life. In his own way, God will make us,
and all those who have lost a loved one, understand
that our beloved continues to live in us as we strive
together to follow the risen Christ..
A BLESSED AND HAPPY EASTER
A Blessed and Happy Easter to each of you. Thank
you to all our ministers who help make our parish a
wonderful place to come together for worship and
fellowship. Each week throughout Lent, we gath-
ered to pray. We rely heavily on many dedicated
volunteer ministers to make this possible. To our
Techas, Christian Mothers, Lectors, Eucharistic Min-
isters, Sacristan, Ushers, Altar Servers, Choir mem-
bers, CCD Teachers, Parish Council members,
church cleaners, and all who have helped during our
Lenten Season. Thank you for your dedication to
our parish family.

ARCHDIOCESAN ANNUAL APPEAL
Please support the Archdiocesan Annual Ap-
peal which began on Sunday, March 5, 2017.
Our parish was allocated a goal of $5,000.00.
Once called the Catholic Charities Appeal, the
Archdiocesan Annual Appeal is a vital way in
which the Archdiocese of Agana led by Arch-
bishop Michael Byrnes, receives financial sup-
port to carry out the functions, services and
ministries of our Church on Guam as per-
formed or coordinated by the Curia and Chan-
cery offices.
Donations our Catholic faithful make to the
Archdiocesan Annual Appeal contribute signifi-
cantly to the overall budget of the Archdiocese
which also draws from other funding sources.
Archbishop Byrnes declared the purpose of the
Annual Appeal is needed to help fund the vari-
ous ministries, operations and archdiocesan
services of our Chancery.
Archbishop Byrnes also acknowledged the
“great skepticism, distrust, question and lack of
confidence” many Catholics have toward the
leadership of the Archdiocese, the Curia and
the Chancery during these difficult times which
have seen our Church rocked by controversy,
division and a growing sea of clergy sexual
abuse allegations and lawsuits.
He pledged to win back the trust of the faithful and our community with “earnest hearts, greater transpar-ency and accountability.” The Annual Appeal supports six ministries and ser-vices: 1. Safe Environment, 2. Evangelization and Faith Formation, 3. Chaplaincy, 4. Vocation Ministry, 5. Office of Communication/Umatuna Si Yu’os and 6. Parish Administrative Support. For more detailed information on the Appeal, visit http://umatuna.org/s=Archdiocesan+Annual+Appeal+ 2017 You can drop off your contribution to the appeal at the Parish Office or in the collection basket during Mass indicating that your donation is for the Archdi-ocesan Annual Appeal. Thank you.
