Riding BootsYou don’t have ride horses this winter to rock these equestrian-inspired boots. The sleekness of this boot is loaned from its classic style of design. The appeal of the shoe is quite obvious as its rugged exteri-or allows for the wearer to stomp through snow and still look chic doing it. Enzo Angiolini “Saylem” Riding Boot by Nord-strom, $129.90, nordstrom.com.

Infinity Scarf Unlike a traditional scarf this never end-ing piece can be wrapped around a pleth-ora of ways and worn differently depend-ing on your preference. Depending on the style, it can be worn daily as a causal accessory or more formally as a part of a well-put-together outerwear ensemble. It comes in a variety of fabrics like knit or heavier sweater fabrics. BP. Shimmer Stripe Infinity Scarf by Nordstrom, $9.80 nordstrom.com

Colorful Pants Colorful pants tell a story on their own, highlighting a new trend of pants as opposed to tops being the focal point of an outfit. The outspoken bottoms are usually paired with natu-ral solids blacks, grays, and whites so all the attention goes to the bold piece of walking art. Coral Pants by H&M $24.95 hm.com.

With the holiday season behind us, Detroit looks ahead to wintry days. Accompanying

the snowy landscape are new fashion trends making exciting statements this season.

Winter Fashion Trends 2013Texting GlovesFingerless gloves, also known as texting gloves, have gotten more and more popular over the years as hand-held technology has transi-tioned from an occasional luxury to a everyday phenomenon. They al-low the majority of your hands to still be covered and kept cozy while your fingers have the option of being uncovered and able to dial, type and operate a hand-held device and/or computer. Striped Fingerless Gloves by Forever 21, $7.80, forever21.com.

Wine ColorsWine is definitely a trending color this sea-son. Its warm and deep hue juxtaposes the vibes of cold, stark weather. Resembling a deep violet, wine is a color that would pair well with other warm colors or even a pop of coolness like a turquoise or beige. Topshop Mesh Yoke Top by Nordstrom, $32, nord-strom.com.

Tracy Morgan is gifted. The veteran comedian and actor is no stranger to stand-up and is known to cause a

stir. He talked exclusively with FrontPage Detroit about being himself, the role his father played in his career and what keeps him going. He also set the record straight about the mysterious night at the Emmys this past season. Tracy delivered bolts of laughter to his fans recently at Sound-board inside MotorCity Casino Hotel in Detroit. Make no mistake about it. Tracy knows how to keep it real.

FPD: So you’ve had an amazing career. What has the journey been like for you?

TM: It’s been great, you know. So far, so good. There have been a few bumps in the road but that is to be expected. I’m now in my seventh season with doing Steady Rock.

FPD: Was comedy something you’ve always wanted to do and when did you realize that this would be a career for you?

TM: I did not choose comedy; comedy chose me. When you are a kid, you do not know what your destiny is go-ing to be.

FPD: You’ve also done a lot of TV and film. Is that much different from comedy? If so, what are the differences and which do you prefer more?

TM: I do not prefer one over the other more. I think they are different genres. There is nothing to me like live entertainment.

FPD: Which comedians inspired you the most and why? What did you take from them?

TM: Well, my father inspired me the most and I am who I am because of him. My father was a very funny man but he was also my hero and my first superstar. And I took all of his instructions and I am following his instructions. And this is why I am here today.

FPD: In your own words, what is your comedic platform? How do you put a show together? Do you do your own writing?

TM: Yes I do write my own scripts. My personal experi-ences are my platform.

FPD: Talk about The Tracy Morgan Show. What are your thoughts on the mixed feedback and how do you deal with what people are saying about you whether it’s favorable or not?

TM: I do not concern myself with what people are say-ing. You know, I just do what I do.

FPD: How have you overcome the challenges with handling industry and your personal life?

TM: I keep them very separated (with emphasis). My personal life is my personal life and my job is my job. I do not mix the two.

FPD: When you aren’t performing, do you ever feel the need to constantly be funny?

TM: No. When I am at home I am dad and I am the husband. I do not have that pressure.

FPD: What’s one of your best moments in the industry?

TM: Well, I still have a lot more to do. I cannot just pick one moment. I think the greatest moments are just doing what I do. I like to have fun and everything that I have been a part of and the people that I work with make it great. If I had to pick one, I could not do it. And just to go back to how I feel about people’s opinion of me, you can never change people’s opinion of you. That is basically their opinion. All you can do is be you and love you. No one is perfect and I have never

made any decision with my eyes closed. But I know I do whatever I do with the intention of being happy and sharing that with people, in the spirit of a Richard Pryor or in the spirit of a Lucille Ball. So I will always do my thing and what other people think of that, I have nothing to do with it. That is something they will have to deal with. When I take the stage, my intentions are to make people smile and laugh and to touch people’s hearts. I want to make this world a little bit better than when I got here. I might lose some people with some of things I say on stage because I’m also confrontational. I re-confront some things so I may lose some people. But

the majority of the people love it. Everyone can’t handle the truth.

FPD: Okay, in your very own words what actu-ally happened that night at the Emmys? What did Jimmy Kimmel really say or do that caused your reaction?

TM: Well we were playing a prank and I just laid on the floor for a few moments.

FPD: What’s your favorite part about Detroit?

TM: My favorite part about Detroit is Detroit and the people.

“I did not choose comedy. Comedy chose me. When you are a kid, you do not know what your destiny is going to be.”

FrontPageDETROIT.comRelationship Advice

By Leslie J. Griffin

Happy New Year! I’m always amazed at some of the magazine headlines that promise the best love with the turn of each year. “Find Your Love.” “Make Love Work for You.” “How to Have a Fail-Proof Love.” And the list goes on.

I look around and see so many people making the same resolutions about many things: education, business, health, finances and, yes, finding a mate. There’s nothing wrong with resolutions, It’s just that oftentimes they’re not carried out. Life changes have to be lifestyle changes, not fad or jump-on-the-bandwagon quick fixes. It’s safe to say that finding the right love definitely falls under the category of a lifestyle change.

The following five steps will help support your mission at finding – and keeping – the right mate.

Make a list

This may sound crazy but it is very helpful. It is almost the same as making a vision board. When you keep your goals in front of you, they become harder and harder to miss and easier to actualize. Make a list of qualities that you offer and qualities that you’d like to see in a partner. This is your personal list so keep it as honest as possible.

Stop searching for love alone

Do not think I am crazy. Love is grand. It’s also one of the most plentiful resources avail-able to mankind. There is no shortage of it so stop looking for it as if it’s going out of style. Love and romance can wane as life sets in. The levels of intensity can and do often vary. Search for someone with like values and dreams. Previous blogs have stated how great it is that you both adore cheese pizza and vanilla ice cream yet these compatibilities only touch the surface. Attracting a life mate calls for people to delve deeper into real is-sues that will actually arise in a relationship.

Believe what you see

I’ve never understood why this is so hard for some people to do. We have got to believe what we are being shown when it comes to a potential mate. It is not a figment of your imagination. It is very real. If what you are being shown is not growing you and does not reflect who you are or does not have common value, then you have to let it go. If you are willing to stick it out, then understand that the art of compromise will be your very best friend and it’s possible after a while that you may become tired of compromising your own values to appease someone else.

Know thyself

Before you can get to know someone else, you must first know yourself. This is a very important step in attracting the right mate. Knowing who you are brings confidence and assurance. Although being flexible in a relationship is required, flexibility best works when common goals are the outcome.

Abstain from premature activities

Oh, yes, I went there. I’ve said it one thousand times. Having sex does not mean you are in a committed relationship. Engaging in such activities too soon has the ability to place a damper on what could be a great union. Staying clear of activities that suggest commit-ment without an actual commitment can increase your better judgment.

This is your life and the decisions are yours to make. Make the right ones so you don’t find yourself having to make decisions about your decisions.

Happy living and loving!

The six most anticipated action movies of 2013

Now that we’re on the other side of the 2012 calendar, it’s time to start

gearing up for some great mov-ies – hopefully. There’s some in-triguing ones on the list; they’re all sequels (one’s a remake), but

in this case, audiences should expect quality, and most of all, a rollicking time at the theater. These are big-budget popcorn movies that should be seen on the big screen first then later consumed on Blu-ray. – Cornelius A. Fortune, managing editor

G.I. Joe: Retaliation: The first did well enough to warrant this sequel. Fans of the ‘80s cartoon should have something to celebrate with another live-action retelling of this patriotic All-American team. Now you know, and knowing is half the battle. (March 29)

Iron Man 3: Robert Downey Jr. was born to play bil-lionaire genius and superhero Tony Stark (AKA Iron Man). The first Iron Man brought a sense of fun back to comic book movies but took the genre in an entirely new direction, opening up the real possibility that comic book movies were no longer for comic geeks. (May 3)

Thor: The Dark World: Another Marvel Studios mov-ie. Thor did a decent job of setting up the origin story and the world Thor inhabits. With Thor: The Dark World, they should be able to get right down to business. (Nov. 8)

Man of Steel: We haven’t seen a big screen version of the Last Son of Krypton since Bryan Singer’s Superman Returns, and that could be for the best. As the saying goes, absence makes the heart grow fonder. Let’s hope people love this interpretation enough to spawn another (good) Superman franchise. (June 14)

Star Trek: Into Darkness: Leave it to J.J. Abrams to make “Star Trek” cool in a “Star Wars” kind of way, though still remaining true to the characters and Gene Roddenberry’s nearly perfect future universe. Because even in a perfectly crafted world, evil still exists. (May 17)

The Wolverine: Hugh Jackman’s back, bub. Sharp-en your Adamantium claws and prepare for some serious X-Men action. Should be quite a movie, especially if it’s better than X-Men Origins: Wolverine. (July 26)
