Steam Train Footplate Ride £50Duration: 1 Hour

2013 Dates: 21st April, 10th May, 9th June, 28th July, 11th August, 15th September & 6th October.

Ever thought about travelling on board a steam engine while all the magic unfolds around you? This ride allows you to visit the footplate of a steam engine for a trip on the Foxfield Railway from Caverswall Road to Dilhorne Park and return.

During this trip you will gain an insight into how the steam engine operates, how it is driven and how much coal is burnt on a round trip. Something you will be able to treasure.

Also included in the price is a day’s rover ticket for the participant and one other to travel in the historic carriages that operate on the railway.

Furthermore a signed certificate will be presented to you after your journey and a voucher entitling you to £25 pound off one of our driver experiences...

Diesel Train Driver Experience £150Duration: All day

2013 Dates: 1st June & 3rd August.

Our diesel mechanical locomotive ‘Wolstanton’ will allow you to experience the thrill of raw power at your fingertips. This experience will allow you to take full control of a diesel hauled passenger train for two round trips to Dilhorne Park while sharing duties with one or two other participants.

Steam Train Driver Experience £250Duration: All day

2013 Dates: 20th April, 11th May, 9th June, 6th & 27th July, 10th August, 14th September & 5th October.

There is nothing quite like the sound, smell and power of a steam locomotive in full cry!

Thanks to our steeply graded line, 1 in 36 at its steepest, you can work our engines in the manner they were designed.

For men or women who like a challenge, this is an ideal experience package! You don’t need to be a steam buff to get an enormous sense of achievement and satisfaction from getting ones hands dirty on the footplate.

Your experience begins at 9.30am at Caverswall Road Station with a warm welcome from your instructor, a safety briefing, information about the line and signalling. You are then shown to the footplate where full instructions on the driving controls, firing techniques and other locomotive operating requirements are given.

Then, taking turns with other 3 participants; you will become the driver and fireman taking in the duties that our crews have to do weekly.

As well as learning to move the engine on its own, you will couple up to two carriages and haul a heavy passenger trains through the Staffordshire

countryside. A real challenge for our small engines.

It’s a thrilling experience to treasure.
