Announcements

Cover Art—The Return of the Prodigal Son, an oil painting by the Dutch

master, Rembrandt van Rijn (1606-1669), is among his final works. One

scholar wrote that in this painting, Rembrandt “interprets the Christian

idea of mercy with extraordinary solemnity, as though this were his spiri-

tual testament to the world…It represents weary and sinful mankind tak-

ing refuge in the shelter of God’s mercy.”

Work Day—The Trustees will be having a work day at the church on Sat-

urday, March 23, starting at 9 a.m. There are a number of tasks that can

be done, both indoors and outdoors—something for everyone! We want

our buildings and grounds to look their best during Holy Week!

Easter Prayer Vigil—Spiritual Care ministry invites the congregation to

participate in Berkeley’s annual Easter prayer vigil. Beginning immedi-

ately after the Good Friday cantata on March 29, the vigil will run until

Easter morning, March 31. The darkened, stripped sanctuary represents

the tomb, and we take turns keeping watch and praying until Easter

morning and the joy and glory of Christ’s miraculous Resurrec-

tion. Look for the vigil signup sheet in the narthex, beginning March

17. All are welcome, but under age 18 must be accompanied by an

adult. Should you desire a particular slot that is already taken, you may

either speak to that person about a trade, or come and keep watch to-

gether. Holy Week and Easter Worship:

Thursday, March 28, 7:00 p.m.: Maundy Thursday Communion Service

Friday, March 29, 7:00 p.m.: Good Friday Cantata “Song of the Shad-

ows” by Joseph Martin; Prayer Vigil begins following service

Easter Sunday, March 31: Sunrise Service outdoors, 7:15 a.m.; Wor-

ship in sanctuary, 8:30 and 10:50 a.m.; Easter Egg Hunt for children,

9:45 a.m.
