Preparation for Worship
Give us, O God, the vision which can see thy love in the world in spite of
human failure. Give us the faith to trust the goodness in spite of our
ignorance and weakness. Give us the knowledge that we may continue
to pray with understanding hearts, and show us what each one of us
can do to set forth the coming of the day of universal peace. Amen.

The Lighting of Advent‟s Fourth Candle Jim, Wendy, and Cherish Lawson
On this fourth Sunday of Advent, the morning of Christmas Eve, we again light
the candles of Hope, Peace, and Joy.
We also light a fourth candle, the candle of Love.
This candle reminds us of the power of God‟s love for us, shown in the birth of a
wondrous child, Emmanuel, God with us.
As we look upon its light, we are reminded that God‟s love is in us and shines
through us.
Let us pray together:
Gracious God, these candles are a symbol of your warmth, light, and pres-
ence. Give us courage to spread your love in the world, even when it is
costly do do so. Amen.
Hymn #111 From Heaven Above
Prayer of Confession
Loving God, too often Christmas is wrapped in sentiment for us, and we do
not permit ourselves to be touched by its true power. A savior comes, but
even hearing his calls for justice and peace, we do not contemplate our
contributions to injustice or warfare. A savior comes, yet we persist in old
patterns, cling to old angers, and resist transformation. Forgive us, O
Lord, when we cling to the very things from which we need to be saved.
Cleanse us, restore us, and make us new according to your will. In Christ’s
name we pray, Amen.
Assurance of Pardon
Leader: The mercy of the Lord is from everlasting unto everlasting. As far as the East
is from the West, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. Friends,
believe the good news of the Gospel: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven!
People: Thanks be to God.

ANNOUNCEMENTS and OPPORTUNITIES TO SERVE
Out of Gratitude We Give. The Joy Gift is a PC(USA) special offering with a rich,
almost 140-year history of commitment. The offering nationwide is distributed equally
between assistance and educating leaders. It is critical in supporting church workers
and their families in times of need, and in education that nurtures racial and ethnic
leaders. Please continue these commitments by filling the Joy envelopes in the pews.
Financial Update. Please pledge so that we can plan our budget for the new year.
Pledge cards are in the pews, and you can drop them in the offering plate or in the of-
fice. Your pledge envelopes are in the Narthex today for you to take home. Thank you!
Greeters. If you would like to extend a warm welcome to members and guests, please
sign up on the schedule at the Information Station.
End-of-Year Giving. We are seeking donations for new folding chairs in Wester Hall,
a Preschool playground set. Chairs are around $25 each and the play set is several
thousand, but any donation will be gratefully accepted. For tax purposes, all checks re-
ceived up until January 7, 2018, can be counted towards 2017 charitable giving. Thank
you for including Grace in your end-of-year giving.
Stocking Stuffers. We have them! Beautiful, holiday green, Grace T-Shirts. All
sizes. $10 for adult sizes and $5 for child and youth sizes. Pick your sizes from the coat
rack in the outer office, and pay in the red and green box marked “T-Shirts”.
Is Steven Speilberg in the Audience? If you‟ve dreamed of working the camera, you
need hands-on experience now! The Grace AV Team needs volunteers to record services
beginning in January. See John Machado ([email protected]) for details.
