This week all parishes of the Diocese will have Confessions on December 21. Although most parishes will start at 7:00 pm, we will start at 6:00 pm since we usually have many people who want to confess. We will also have our regular parish Confessions on Thursday at 6:00 pm in the Chapel, and this will be the last opportunity for Confessions before Christmas. No Confessions on Saturday, December 24, Christmas Eve.

Speaking of Christmas, we want you to plan your Christmas Mass wisely right now. The Church seats 1600 and the Great Hall 900. Whatever you do, do not attend the 3:00 pm Mass Christmas Eve; last year 3235 people attended the 3:00 pm Mass in the Church and in the Great Hall of the Parish Center. Those Masses are attended by lots of folks who come once a year, and so if you are reading these words, you come regularly. So, please attend a different Mass. Since overloading the Church is dangerous and, in fact, illegal, police will help us close the Church when it fills to the capacity of 1,600. Others who arrive will be directed to our Great Hall in the Parish Center where Mass will also be celebrated at 3:00. So, double Masses at 3:00 and 5:00 (2515 attended the 5:00 pm Masses last year) in the Church and Great Hall. Warning: once the Church fills, we are going to start Mass even if it might be 2:30 or so; when the plane is full, we’re going to take off! Next Mass at 7:00 pm but only in the Church. Then Spanish Mass at 9:00 pm in the Church. Then Midnight Mass in the Church at Midnight, 12:00 am (warning—1766 attended!). Christmas Day only in the Church: Masses in English at 8:00, 9:45 and 11:30; Mass in Spanish at 1:15. Please come on Christmas Day, because it’s a much more peaceful experience. If you come on Christmas Eve, you will be fighting for parking spaces and fighting for seats (so much for “silent night, holy night, all is calm…”).

Please note that the 6:30 pm Mass in Spanish on Friday, December 16 is cancelled.

When Christmas falls during the week, we can count on your financial generosity for both Christmas and the following Sunday. Christmas Day falls on Sunday every 7 or so years, and when that happens there is no following Sunday before New Year’s Day. Consequently, we lose roughly $50-80,000. Please be especially generous this year so that we can complete our budget and take care of our bills.

Esta semana, todas las parroquias de la Diócesis de Dallas ofrecerán el Sacramento de la Reconciliación (Confesión) el 21 de diciembre. Aunque la mayoría de las parroquias comenzarán a las 7:00 pm, nosotros comenzaremos a las 6:00 pm ya que usualmente tenemos mucha gente que quiere confesarse. Hablando de Navidad, queremos que planeen su Misa de Navidad sabiamente desde ahora. Sin importar lo que hagan, no asistan a la Misa de Vísperas a las 3:00 pm; el año pasado 3235 feligreses asistieron a las 3:00 pm a la iglesia y al Gran Salón del Centro Parroquial. A esas Misas asisten muchas personas quienes vienen solo cada año, y si ustedes están leyendo estas palabras, ustedes asisten regularmente. Así que, por favor asistan a otras Misas. Considerando que sobrellenar la iglesia es peligroso y, de hecho, ilegal, la policía nos ayudará a cerrar la Iglesia cuando se llene en su capacidad de 1,600 personas. Los que lleguen serán dirigidos al Gran Salón en el Centro Parroquial donde la Misa será celebrada a las 3:00 pm. Así que, habrá dos Misas simultaneas a las 3:00 pm y a las 5:00 pm. Si ustedes vienen a la Víspera de Navidad, ustedes estarán pelando lugares en el estacionamiento y peleando lugar en las bancas (demasiado ajetreo para “noche de paz, todo duerme alrededor…”).

Por favor tomen nota que la Misa de 6:30 pm en español el viernes 16 de diciembre será cancelada.

Cuando la Navidad cae durante la semana, podemos contar con sus generosas donaciones en Navidad y el domingo siguiente. El día de Navidad se celebra en domingo cada 7 años aproximadamente, y cuando eso sucede no hay siguiente domingo antes del día de Año Nuevo. En consecuencia, no contamos con aproximadamente entre $50,000 y $80,000 dólares. Por favor sea especialmente generoso este año para poder completar nuestro presupuesto y pagar nuestras facturas.

El 21 de diciembre todas las parroquias de la Diócesis de Dallas ofrecerán el Sacramento de la Reconciliación (Confesión) la misma noche para que cualquier católico pueda ir a cualquier parroquia a confesarse. Aquí en San Francisco la iglesia, (no la capilla) estará abierta para quienes deseen ser perdonados de pecado antes de Navidad. Aunque la mayoría de las parroquias comenzarán a las 7:00 pm, nosotros comenzaremos a las 6:00 pm ya que usualmente tenemos mucha gente que quiere confesarse. Algunos sacerdotes, además de nuestros tres sacerdotes, estarán confesando, pero les recordamos a todos que esa Confesión no es Dirección Espiritual, y les pedimos a todos que preparen su Confesión y sean concretos así las personas que están en la fila no se desanimen de esperar tanto tiempo. Tendremos también, las confesiones del jueves 22 de diciembre de 6:00 pm a 7:00 pm; sin embargo, ésta será la última oportunidad para confesarse antes de Navidad ya que las confesiones regulares del sábado 24 de diciembre están canceladas.

As you begin year end tax planning for your family or business, don’t forget that donations

to St. Francis qualify as a tax deductible charitable contribution.

Most parishioners give a cash gift, but a gift of stocks or bonds is another way to benefit

St. Francis and gain a tax advantage. All cash or other asset contributions must be received

or postmarked by December 31 to receive contribution credit for 2016.

Any gift received or postmarked on or after January 1 will be credited to 2017.
