Fourteen Sign to Women's Basketball (W Basketball) Permanent link Mon., Aug. 2, 2010 El Cajon, Calif. – San Diego Christian announces fourteen new additions to the 2010-2011 Women’s Basketball team. Brittany Robinson (San Diego, California), a 5’10 junior transfer from Grossmont College, “brings great leadership, work ethic and intensity,” said Head Coach Kelsey Dillon. “She is a great defender as well as a threat on the offensive end.” Robinson attended Horizon High School in San Diego, serving as captain of the Panthers Basketball team for two years. At Grossmont, she received the Best Defensive Player award in 2008 and Pacific Coast Conference Player of the Week in January 2010 for the Griffins. Michelle Gonzalez (El Cajon, California) is a “very quick and intelligent point guard,” commented Coach Dillon. “Her scrappy defense will lead our fast break style game well.” Gonzalez is a transfer junior from Grossmont College in El Cajon, California. A junior transfer from Citrus College, Jasmin Thomas (Buffalo, New York), brings “creativity with the ball and a great personality” to the SDCC basketball squad according to Coach Dillon. “She is a quick, athletic guard who will be an important part of our running/pressing game.” Thomas was awarded the Scholar Baller Academic Award in 2010 at Citrus. Ashley Mason (Inglewood, California), a 5’10 forward from College of the Canyons (COC). She is an “unbelievable athlete who can run the floor and jump out of the gym.” said Coach Dillon. “We look forward to her dominating the boards and creating havoc at the top of our press. Mason was a contributor to multiple championships for the Redondo Union High School Seahawks basketball program from 2005-2008. She was the conference champion in 2010 for COC’s track and field team. Mariah Bennett (Santee, California) a freshman point guard/guard from Santee, California comes to SDCC offering “great defensive skills and a personality that lights up the room”, said Coach Dillon. Bennett helped the West Hills win its second straight Division II title in 2010. In 2010, she ranked 7th in the conference and 14th in steals in 31 games for the Wolf Pack. Bennett earned multiple league, MVP and Player of the Week awards while at West Hills. Sabrina Jiminez, a 5’8 freshman guard and San Diego native, is a “hard worker 100% of the time,” said Coach Dillon, “with good basketball IQ.” This past year, Jiminez, a decorated athlete for Granite Hills High School in basketball, was awarded Player of the Year in the Grossmont Hills League in 2010 for her efforts on the court (totaled 447 points, 129 assists, 139 rebounds and 75 steals). The seventh addition to the SDCC basketball team comes out of Granda Hills, California, Alexa Davison, a freshman guard/forward. Davison is a “versitle post player that is tough on the boards,” commented Coach Dillon. “She plays great, fundamental defense, which is a welcomed addition to the teams’ arsenal.” Davison participated in track and field and basketball for the Cleveland High School Cavaliers, earning the Village Scholar-Athlete award in 2010. Dual sport athlete, Aja Walker, will be joining both the women’s basketball team and volleyball team at SDCC in the fall. The 6’0 forward hails from Charleston, South Carolina and is a “great hard-working athlete with a lovable personality,” according to Coach Dillon. Melanie Lombardi (Poway, California) comes to SDCC from Christian Life Academy in Escondido, California. Lombardi, a 5’5 freshman guard, is a “deceivingly creative offensive player with incredible work ethic,” said Coach Dillon. “She has a positive attitude all of the time and is very encouraging to her teammates.” While at CLA, she was a part of two CIF Championships, earning multiple awards. She totaled 534 points in 2010.

Hannah Miller, a freshman out of Santa Maria, California, is “another quick guard who can shoot the ball from the outside,” said Coach Dillon, “and plays aggressively on the defensive end.” While at Pioneer Valley High School, Miller participated in volleyball, basketball and track. She earned 1st and 2nd All-League team honors in basketball. Jermani Daniels is a 5’10 freshman out of Alta Dena, California. Coach Dillon describes Daniels as a “fundamental, tough post player who does all the little things a coach loves to see out of their players.”Daniels attended John Muir High School, earning All-Area honorable mention in 2008 and participated in the 2010 Tribune All-Star game. Heather Serven (San Diego, California) is a five foot nine freshman guard from Torrey Pines High School who “will provide a threat from the outside as well as causing mismatches for smaller guards on the block,” said Coach Dillon. “She is also one of the best three-point shooters coming out of San Diego County” scoring 1,281 career points. Serven is one of the most decorated incoming freshman for the Hawks, having been selected for multiple San Diego area tournament teams, 1st and 2nd All-North County teams, 1st team All Avocado League (2008-10), 1st team All-Academic and two-time MVP for Falcons basketball in her tenure at Torrey Pines. Rebekah Castellow is “a small, but scrappy guard who plays 100% of the time” said Coach Dillon, “she has a strong love for the Lord and basketball.” The five foot four Castellow, a San Diego native, comes to the Hawks having graduated from Southwest High School (San Diego) this past June. A forward transfer from LA Valley College, Juanita Lewis comes to the Hawks having earned First team honors from 2007-2009 for the Monarchs. She is a “smaller post player with heart that makes her appear to be six feet tall,” said Coach Dillon. “She is a beast on the board with competitive attitude.”
