SARVA SHIKSHA ABHIYAN MID-DAY MEAL SCHEME
Providing access to all children in the age group 6-14 years through formal primary schools
Completion of five years of primary education by all children by 2007
Completion of eight years of elementary education by all children by 2010
provision of elementary education of satisfactory quality for all by 2010.
One teacher for every 40 students
A school within 1 km of every habitation
Spacious and well lit and well ventilated rooms
Free textbooks
Increasing school enrollment & attendance
Socialization of children irrespective of caste

ACHIEVEMENTS
UNDP projects that India will achieve the 100% target net
enrollment ratio by 2015
Currently, 95.7% of children ages 6-14 years are enrolled in
schools; 4.3% are out of school in rural areas;
Youth literacy rate has increased 24% since 2000
Net enrolment in primary education: 89% (Ibid.)
The 2009, RIGHT of children to free and compulsory
education act ensures that more than 8 million children,
mostly girls, are now attending school.
