Objective • Determine pollinator’s differential attractiveness to non-native
verse native flowering plants Methodology • Five native and five non-native plants of varying characteristics • Directly in flower bed • 10 minute block observations • One morning and afternoon observation • Pollinators included:
• Hummingbirds, Managed honey bees, Native honey bees, Bumble bees, Carpenter bees, Wasps, Butterflies, Hawk moths, Hummingbird moths, Hover flies, Bee flies, Pollinating beetles, Ants and other diptera, coleoptera, hemiptera or Lepidoptera
The flower plots
Results
• Types of pollinators observed for every flowering plant
• Types of pollinators observed for native vs. non- native flowering plants
