I am very happy to be writing this introduction in our newsletter of the term and I trust you find it useful and informative.

As we are approching to Day of 'Arafah the ninth day of Dhul-Hijjah (the 12th and final month of the Islamic calendar) is the Day of 'Arafah. It is the day when pilgrims stand on the plain of 'Arafah to pray.

We ask Almighty Allah (SWT) accept all the duas of the Hujjaj and give them and us the Happiness of the this World and Hereafter.Amin !

FOUNDATION PHASE

PRE-PRIMARY EVENTS

INTERMEDIATE PHASE

Our Grade 1 learners enjoyed an informative lesson about night animals at the Bayworld Aquarium. After their lesson, they were entertained by a seal show. Learners had the opportunity to see many different fishes and penguins. It was a lovely day they will never forget.

“Learners put their Maths Skills to the test”29 Learners from Grade 4-7 were invited to write the AMESA final round Maths Olympiad at Herbert Hurd Primary school on Wednesday, 30 July 2014. We look forward to receiving our results in October.

Bayworld Outing Grade 1: 07 August 2014

Today the Foundation Phase learners learnt about South Africa and its diverse heritage. They learnt all about South Africa’s National Symbols and that the coat of arms carries a powerful message, ‘Diverse People Unite’. They were taught to respect all cultures to be tolerant of all people. They enjoyed a cultural meal at break time. They also learnt the beginnings of the ‘bunny chow’. All our learners put a lot of effort and creativity into their outfits today and wore them proudly. They all agreed that it was a special day and look forward to many more theme days.

The Grade 2 decided to dress up as a profession. Some came dressed as doctors, nurses, hunters and soldiers. We also had role plays in our class which was very interesting and they enjoyed their shared experience.

Cultural Day, 18 September 2014

HIGH SCHOOLEskom Expo for Young Scientists is an exposition, or science fair, where students have a chance to show others their projects about their own scientific investigations. At Expo, students can discuss their work with judges, teachers and students from other schools, with parents and with other interested people. By participating at expo students will increase their awareness of the wonders of science, add to their knowledge and broaden their scientific horizons. This year Eskom Expo for Young Scientists was held on 19th and 20th of August in NNMU campus. Firstly, after a long period of hard work our learners presented their science project at Nimaziye Al Azhar School Annual Science Expo on 18th of August. 65 projects and over hundred of learners from various grades participated in this competition. These projects are judged by our dedicated teachers to choose best science projects that attended to 2014 Eskom Expo for Young Scientists regional. More than 30 projects in total participated in regional Science Expo this year from our Primary and High School learners. Our future scientists achieved 7 gold, 5 silver, and 19 bronze medals in 2014 Eskom Expo for Young Scientists regional. We would like to thank you all dedicated parents, students, and teachers behind this success. H.YILDIRIM

NMMU ESKOM EXPO FOR YOUNG SCIENTISTS (2014)

Hira Islamic Science Competition also known as "HISO" is an initiative of Fountain Educational Trust in conjunction with AMS. This national competition has proved to be very successful over the years. It gives our children the drive to study and compete with many muslim schools nationally. Only Grades 7 - 9 are allowed to participate. The focus of the first round questions were based on "The chapters of Dua" from the famous hadith book called Riyaadhus Sauliheen. We would like to applaud our learners that participated and congratulate all those who qualified to the second round. The final round will take place on Saturday, 18, October 2014. Learners will be invited to attend the Awards Ceremony in November at Nizamiye Complex in Midrand. Insha-Allah

HIRA ISLAMIC SCIENCE OLYMPIAD

The pre-primary phase had their annual photo shoot day. All the learners where dressed up in their fancy outfits, looking very cute. The Grade R learners were also very excited as they dressed up in the graduation cloak.

Our little one’s had an exciting Scientist day. They were all dressed up with their white cloaks and safety glasses. They were taught about experiments and even tried it out for themselves and thoroughly enjoyed it. Look out for our future scientist!

AMESA Final Round: 30 July 2014

On Wednesday, 13 August we were facilitated by ABSA bank volunteers in conjunction with the banking association of SA to teach Shariah Curriculum outline of this campaign. Learners enjoyed the presentation and were pleas-antly surprised to receive their very own money box, ruler and timetable.

Grade 4-6 learners participated in the Annual Conquesta Olympiad. Learners tested their skills at Mathematics, English, Afrikaans, Natural Science and Technology and General knowledge. We look forward to receiving their results later this year.

The Grade 2 learners visited Bayworld for an educational and fun outing. The information on Nocturnal animals was very interesting and informative. The learners found it exciting to touch the animals as well as visiting the snake park, which was daunting for some. We look forward to our next visit to learn more about sea life.

Our little scientists impressed teachers, parents and judges with their extravagant, well-prepared science experiments. They have really excelled and made us all proud with their confidence and knowledge about their projects. Watch this space for our future Einsteins.

Alghamdulillah, our Grade 2 Science Expo went very well. Our little ones were so well-prepared and confident, which really impressed our parents and judges. The learners really outdone themselves this year and this will encourage them to try even harder next year. Grade 2’s, you really made us proud, Masha’Allah.

Our Grade 3-7 learners participated in an Internal Science Expo on the 18 August 2014. This Expo preceeded the Eskom Science Expo at NMMU, and was used to select projects to represent Nizamiye Al-Azhar at a Provincial level. All learners presented amazing projects and gave off their best. One of the projects that captured everyone's interest was Mikaeel Soomar's (Grade 3)'Lemon Battery'. Muaawiyah Hendricks(Grade 5) presented a well researched and presented a current topic about 'Ebola Virus'. Our learners exceeded our expectations! Well done to all participants!
