“Foundation Week is an important moment to show how foundations are working on a large range of topics. Foundations work in close proximity to people and engage in programmes to promote social change, access to health care, research, culture and many other activities which reflect the concerns of our society. Foundation Week will help to demonstrate the efficacy of the sector to those who may be interested in working with foundations and wish to know more about us.”FrANCIs ChArhON, ChIeF exeCUTIVe OFFICeR, FONDATION De FRANCe

“As a european network of organisations promoting children’s rights and welfare, we want to bring our ideas and experience to a wider audience. We want to learn what’s happening in the world of philanthropy, connect with like-minded people, identify new partners and bring back new ideas to our membership. Foundation Week is a unique opportunity to achieve these aims. It should boost our on-going work to achieve lasting social change.“JANA hAINsWOrTh, SeCReTARy geNeRAl, eUROChIlD

“I’m coming to Foundation Week because it is a very welcome breakthrough event in that it is a real attempt to connect foundations with the public, as well as eU policymakers, offering debates about the role of foundations in society and exhibitions showcasing what they do. let’s hope the public makes use of the opportunities and the barriers start to come down!”CArOlINE hArTNEll, eDITOR, AllIANCe mAgAzINe

“The first Foundation Week gives foundations the possibility to share their experiences as well as to present their work to a broader audience. you can also get involved by participating in the Open Days debates and Interactive Fair. This is a unique opportunity to learn more about the themes and strategies of foundations’ work and to share your point of view!”INGrID hAmm, memBeR OF The BOARD OF mANAgemeNT, ROBeRT BOSCh STIFTUNg

“Foundation Week represents a formidable opportunity for european philanthropy. It is the first week-long forum where foundations can exchange dialogue and interact with the public and stakeholders, raising public awareness of our missions, activities and goals. Don’t miss this unique chance to discover the world of foundations in europe.”mArCO pArlANGElI, ChIeF exeCUTIVe AND ChIeF geNeRAl mANAgeR, FONDAzIONe mONTe DeI PASChI DI SIeNA

“Foundation Week will be a unique space to share the intense and diverse work that foundations are developing everyday all across europe, strengthening our social fabric. It will also be an opportunity to convey foundations work to the general public and to policy makers. The Week is an important step in reinforcing a transparent, accountable and vibrant european foundation sector, and will certainly stand as a milestone in the work of the eFC.” EmílIO rUI VIlAr, PReSIDeNT OF The BOARD OF TRUSTeeS, FUNDAçãO CAlOUSTe gUlBeNKIAN

21ST eFC AGA & CONFErENCE‘A CONVErsATION WITh ThE INsTITUTIONs’ 2-4 JUNE 2010What makes a good conversation? Frequently there is a misconception that good conversationalists are those people who have an interesting story to tell. While undoubtedly foundations have an eclectic array of worthwhile stories to share, by the same token gaining the perspectives of other stakeholders is equally enriching. Taking advantage of the conference’s return to Brussels, as it does every three years, the emphasis this year is to engage in a conversation with eU policy and decision makers, as well as other stakeholders on issues of mutual interest. The conference also aims to address key issues affecting the legal and fiscal framework in which foundations operate as well as matters of how foundations communicate, network and build their capacity.

eVeNINg NeTWORKINgAgA and Conference delegates have the opportunity to network during receptions at Square on Wednesday 2 June and at the magritte museum on 3 June. All Foundation Week participants are invited to take time out in the ‘Bon Vivant’ mirror palace, a lounge bar situated at the Belvue museum, on both evenings. The eFC would like to thank the King Baudouin Foundation for generously providing the Belvue and magritte museum networking venues.

11FOUNDATION WEEK FOUNDATIONS’ WORK 31/05 > 04/06/2010 - SqUARe/BRUSSelS

For the fourth year, the eFC is running a competition for its members to

submit photos that represent their work. The impressive entries from the

past three competitions have been unique and high-quality examples of

eFC members’ valuable work.

This year’s theme is “Working in Partnership”, therefore members are

encouraged to send pictures that show what they have achieved by

joining forces with other organisations. This theme is to be understood in

its broadest sense, as a celebration of the fruitful collaboration between

foundations and other actors. Working together towards a common goal

has enabled foundations to have a greater impact. A total of ten finalists

will be selected by a photo competition jury, from which delegates at the

AgA and Conference will be asked to vote for one winner. The winning

photo will be announced during the closing plenary of the AgA and

Conference on 4 June.

ABOUT...

Foundation Week is organised by the european Foundation Centre (eFC).

established in 1989, the eFC is an international association representing

more than 230 public-benefit foundations and corporate funders

dedicated to advancing the public good in europe and beyond. The eFC

develops and pursues activities in line with its objectives: creating an

enabling legal and fiscal environment for foundations; documenting the

foundation landscape; strengthening the infrastructure of the foundation

sector; and promoting collaboration, both among foundations and

between foundations and other actors.
