Fuel is a substance which, when burnt, i.e. on coming in contact and reacting with oxygen or air, produces heat. Thus, the substances classified as fuel must necessarily contain one or several of the combustible elements : carbon, hydrogen, sulphur, etc. In the process of combustion, the chemical energy of fuel is converted into heat energy.
To utilize the energy of fuel in most usable form, it is required to transform the fuel from its one state to another, i.e. from solid to liquid or gaseous state, liquid to gaseous state, or from its chemical energy to some other form of energy via single or many stages. In this way, the energy of fuels can be utilized more effectively and efficiently for various purposes.

A thick, flammable, yellow-to-black mixture of gaseous, liquid, and solid hydrocarbons that occurs naturally beneath the earth's surface, can be separated into fractions including natural gas, gasoline, naphtha, kerosene, fuel and lubricating oils, paraffin wax, and asphalt and is used as raw material for a wide variety of derivative products.

PETROLEUM IN EVERY DAY LIFE
Petroleum is the backbone of the world’s energy mix and it is the basis of countless items we use every day. Petroleum is a powerful tool that e n a b l e s t e c h n o l o g i c a l advancement, social development and prosperity, so it is important that we continue to provide crude oil, NGL and refined products to our customers at home and around the world.
Most people associate petroleum with fuel to power cars, airplanes and other forms of transportation that use internal combustion engines. But it’s a multifaceted material that is used to make products for use in everything from agriculture to medicine to textiles to electronics. People say the world is growing smaller, but only if we continue to travel further. How can we keep up with the growing demand for energy? How will we share our planet and manage its resources for future generations?

Gasoline or petrol is a fuel, derived from petroleum crude oil, for use in spark-ignited internal combustion engines. Conventional gasoline is mostly a blended mixture of more than 200 different hydrocarbon liquids ranging from those containing 4 carbon atoms to those containing 11 or 12 carbon atoms. It has an initial boiling point at atmospheric pressure of about 35 °C (95 °F) and a final boiling point of about 200 °C (395 °F). Gasoline is used primarily as fuel for the internal combustion engines in automotive vehicles as well in some small airplanes.

What Happens When You Put Jet Fuel In a Normal Car?
It just happened at a gas station in “New Jersey” cars got filled with kerosene after a delivery tank truck mistakenly filled one of the pumps deposits with jet fuel. So what happened next? Did the cars explode in flames? Did they run faster? Actually, the answer is (fortunately) a let down: the cars just stalled. The engines just failed, unable to combust the fuel, leaving drivers stranded on the road. According to the hazardous materials crews on the scene, there's no danger of the cars catching on fire. The station has been closed as they locate the deposit with the airplane fuel inside.
