The Myth and Magic of Precious MetalsFor thousands of years, the protective amulet, or talisman, has been humankind’s adornment of choice. Likewise, the enduring beauty of precious metals signified divine influence to numerous ancient cultures. Therefore, it was not long before gold, the platinum group metals and silver were worked into talismans of formidable beauty and power.

The Gifts of GoldThe ancient Egyptians, in life and death, literally covered themselves with amulets of solid gold. To ensure victory in battle, Roman soldiers entered combat with gold charms concealed beneath their armor, and even the mighty Caesar never traveled outside Rome without a solid gold likeness of Fortuna close at hand.

The Power of PalladiumA mysterious relic believe to have been cast to earth from heaven, the palladium of myth is synonymous with Troy, where it was revered as a safeguard of the city’s invincibility. Indeed, it was only when the palladium was stolen that Troy fell to the Greek army, hidden within a wooden horse. Ever after, cities throughout the Mediterranean world kept a ‘palladium’ as a defender of the state.

Like its sister metal platinum, palladium is hypoallergenic, non-corrosive, and extremely rare. A noble metal, it is named for the legendary palladium of ancient myth. Invincible like its namesake of old, precious palladium admirably enhances Fortuna’s power as FORS in 999.5-purity.

The Symbolism of SilverFrom the ancient Greeks and Phoenicians to Native American and Incan tribes, many cultures believed that silver possessed the ability to draw in and capture harmful energies when worn as a talisman. it as you would any article made of precious materials.

Avoid ammonia-based solvents, caustic cleaning solutions and silver polishes, and instead, clean FORS with a mild, soap-based detergent and warm water. Then, simply pat dry with a chamois cloth.
