Greetings to all Nobles and ladies of Moslah. This year is rapidly coming to an end, and it’s hard to believe how quickly it has gone by.

Moslah Shriners have been

quite busy this fall. Your Divan has visited all but one of the units and associations in the month of October. I trust that we are keeping you informed as to what is going on at Moslah and, in particular, upcoming activities.

Congratulations and great thanks goes out to High Priest and Prophet Jeff Eaton and Lady Terry, as well as Assistant Rabban Moe Rahmeh and Lady Dee for the Oktoberfest event on October 12. The variety and quality of the beverages was outstanding, as was the food cooked up by Moe, Kenny

Beck and their cooking team. Also, a big shout out to our hospitality committee for their continuous hard work on our activities. The event was well attended, rivaling the wine tasting we had in the spring. Hopefully this event will be a great kick start for our new Brewing and Grilling club. On October 14, we conducted our fifth consecutive Fall Street Corner Collections benefitting Shriners Hospitals in the cities of Weatherford, Willow Park, Cleburne and Mineral Wells. Hats off to HFD Chairmen Trace Brooks, Marvin Woods and their committee for the excellent planning and hard work that went into executing this event. At last count we were over $16,000 in collections, and several outlying clubs will be conducting store front collections in the next two weeks to add to that total. This event has become increasingly

Dear Fellow Nobles,

The last couple of months – with their unprecedented number of violent storms and other natural disasters – have been extremely stressful and even frightening for many people. I want to commend everyone at headquarters, our hospitals and our temples who was in the path of these destructive events for their calm professionalism, and for helping one another. There are programs in place to assist fellow masons and nobles in Texas, Florida and Puerto Rico at msana.com, and once we have adequate assessments of the situation in Mexico, we will make a decision about formalizing donor assistance efforts for this area. Communications with information on assisting hospitals and patients in the affected areas have also been distributed.

Offering compassion and assistance to those in need is a hallmark trait of the nobles of our great fraternity. It is also what truly sets Shriners Hospitals for Children® apart from other pediatric health care systems. The acceptance, the attention, the time and the hope that our amazing staff and volunteers give our patients are the best, most important gifts we provide – it is at least as important as the fact that we will provide excellent care and every medical resource we have to help a patient and family, regardless of the families’ ability to pay.

I sometimes don’t think that we all realize the difference we make in the lives of our patients and families. A few months ago, I was visiting our Erie health care center during their 90th anniversary celebration and had the honor of hearing a presentation by a Dr. Martha Bruce, who was a former patient decades ago. She had polio as a child, and in 1945, her parents couldn’t find anyone to help their 15-year- old daughter. As Dr. Bruce said, “no one wanted to take a little black girl.” Someone in the family knew a Shriner, and consequently our Erie hospital took her and provided care for her. Dr. Bruce grew up, earned multiple degrees, and became a successful educator. She taught at a college in Africa, worked for 24 years for the Youngstown City School district and spent six years teaching inmates at a state correctional institution to read. Would she have had this success without our help? We can’t know the answer to that for sure. What we do know is the difference we made in Dr. Bruce’s life was so important and lasting that she wanted to come back and thank the Erie hospital all these years later. As she spoke, she recalled every nurse, every meal, and the children that were in the beds to her right and left.

As I said at the Lexington hospital board meeting, where I shared the story of Dr. Bruce, as an organization, and as members of Shriners International, we, including our ladies, are similar to the power generated by Niagara Falls. That power is an accumulation of drops of water. No one drop is more important than another. Collectively it’s a team that creates a lot of energy. As an organization we generate a lot of power. We use that power to change the lives of children. While we have great staff and great leaders, the true difference in our organization is in our commitment to changing lives, and to making those changes through the incorporation of wrap-around care, which offers medical care, compassion and hope. These help our patients build self-esteem, and begin to believe in their futures, and their dreams. Some have said that when you hope, you have everything. I don’t know about that, but I do know that when you change lives, you change the world.

How many times have you heard a story about a Shriners Hospitals patient saying “Thank you. Because of you, I have a life I didn’t believe was possible?”

Certainly, both Shriners International and Shriners Hospitals for Children face considerable challenges. But if each one of us is truly committed to the missions of our fraternity and philanthropy, and truly wants to change lives and make the world a better place, working together, we can overcome any difficulties, accomplish any tasks, and meet any goals.

Thank you for all you do for our patients and for our brotherhood.

Yours in the faith,

Jerry G. Gantt, Chairman, Board of Trustees, Shriners Hospitals for Children

Mystic WheelsThe Mystic Wheels had

a very good group of nobles out for the fall Hospital Fund Drive. Beautiful weather and great people in the Cleburne area. We got the FEZ in front of the public and the collections were excellent.

We had a nice group of nobles putting out circus signs in October. Always a fun time, signs, breakfast, lunch, fun! Thanks to all who participated.

The circus will be here shortly. The Mystic Wheels will be handling the animal rides. If you are a Moslah noble with no unit assignment for the circus, give us a call. We will put you to work and you’ll have a great time! Numbers below.

We invite all Moslah nobles to Visit / Like our Facebook Page for even more details of events and pictures/videos of our drill teams.

Are you and your Lady looking for a unit home? Looking to join a great group of Masonic brothers, make lasting friendships, be part of a Winning Team? Would you like to experience that thrill of competition again, have more fun than you can imagine? Well the Mystic Wheels just might be the one for you. We are a family

oriented group with the ladies and kids (and now grandkids) at all our events! We ride inexpensive, traditional, open wheel go karts that are super fun to drive. In addition we are active in all temple and blue lodge activities. Call Bob Roth 703-509-7773, Sonny Francks 214-205-0295 or Brett Wiesner 817-360-7585, for information and a visit. We may be the best fit for you; give us a call... Still the LARGEST and friendliest motorized unit in Texas!

– Bill Jones

Potentate Continuedimportant not only for the funds we collect on behalf of our hospitals, but also for showing the fez in our outlying counties which are becoming more and more populated. The Moslah Shrine Circus will be back at the Fort Worth Convention Center arena November 30 through December 3. Nobles, please help us finish strong in both ad sales and Noble ticket sales. We have an additional 1500 Noble tickets allotted to us over last year, and we need to sell them out again. The circus is far and away Moslah’s biggest fundraiser and, as such, I implore each of you to do your part in helping us remain a highly successful and viable Shrine center. Thanks for all you do for Moslah, and blessings to each of you during upcoming holiday season. Phil Trew, Potentate

Car-VettesHi Folks, it’s cooling

off some... won’t have to mow the yard (weeds) as much! How did you enjoy the Oktoberfest beer & bratwurst at the temple? Wasn’t that fun? Maybe we could also do a Januaryfest, Februaryfest, March, etc... you get the idea?

As far as I have heard, our street corners HFD collections went very well, thanks to all of the fine folks who donated their hard earned cash. Let’s also thank our fellow Nobles and wives in units and clubs who spent the time standing on the corners to collect. The kids needing care in our hospitals will benefit from everyone’s joint efforts. WAY TO GO!

November is the last month of the year to have 30 days. Don’t forget to set your clocks back one hour (spring ahead & fall back). Also, please don’t forget 11/11/11, officially the 11th hour of the 11th day on the 11th month. That was the signing of the armistice, which ended World War I in 1918, known as Armistice Day and established as a national holiday in 1938. Later, after WW II and the Korean war, on June 1, 1954, November 11 became a day to honor all American veterans, wherever and whenever they had served on active duty and the name was changed from Armistice Day to Veterans Day. Take a little time to think about and remember all of our Veterans of the U.S. Armed forces who have served in uniform and the personal sacrifices they made so far away from home and family.

Lemme see now. For this month we have the Temple meeting on the 9th, a deadline for turning in circus ads on the 10th, a Heroes parade in Arlington on the 11th, a new special Moslah event: the Car Show & Toy Drive on the 18th, the Ft. Worth Parade of Lights on the 19th, Thanksgiving on the 23rd, a first time Parade of Lights in Mineral Wells on the 25th and our ever popular Shrine Circus starting on the 30th. Speaking of Circus, the setup day is on 11/29 and the tear down day is on 12/4, help if you can. Also, we Car-vettes have our monthly unit meeting on the 13th @ 7PM, we meet on the second Monday of the month. We invite any interested Shriners to attend if they desire.

We’re also talking about getting the cars ready for some of the Christmas parades we usually do, like the

upcoming Fort Worth Parade of Lights on November 19 and the Parade of Lights in Mineral Wells on the 25th. It’s fun to decorate our cars with the lights and show them off to the folks who watch the parades. They line the streets smiling, yelling and waving at us as we go by, and we enjoy being a part of their good time. I think they know who we are and that we take care of their kids. Parades and word of mouth can help build our membership back up; the hospitals need us to do that. BTW... have you ever forwarded the Moslah News on to a non-Shriner friend of yours so he can read it also?

Betcha didn’t know... • The first true Thanksgiving was in 1623, when the Pilgrims gave thanks for rain that ended a rather severe crop drought. George Washington proclaimed the first national Thanksgiving Day in 1789. Thanksgiving was first officially called for in 1863 by a presidential proclamation of Abraham Lincoln proclaiming the date to be the final Thursday in November. On December 26, 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed a joint resolution of Congress changing the national Thanksgiving Day from the last Thursday in November to the fourth Thursday. How ‘bout all dat!• There are over 7,500 varieties of apples throughout the world, and it would take you 20 years to try them all if you ate an apple a day!• The liquid inside young coconuts can be used as blood plasma? • No piece of paper can be folded in half more than seven (7) times? • The King of hearts is the only King without a moustache?

Nobles... if you are looking to join a unit that will give you a BIG return on camaraderie and enjoyment, look no further, the Car-Vettes is the one for YOU! Yep, you too can wear one of our bright yellow unit shirts and maybe drive one of the classy looking little yellow cars (it’s a grown up go-cart). Just join our unit and help us with our activities. We offer a positive, friendly and fun family environment to enrich your Shrine experience. If any Noble would like information or to test drive one of our really cool looking yellow cars, all you have to do is let us know. Don’t be bashful, you can contact President R. J. Forester at 817-235-4444, Colonel Cecil LeMond at 817-247-0246, or really, any of our members. We are a VERY proud bunch of fellas and will be happy to talk to you about our specialized unit.– Chuck Huddleston, Car-Vettes
