MODE OF ACTION

Phosphite contains one less oxygen (O) than phosphate making its chemistry and behaviour different. For example phosphite is more soluble than phosphate which makes leaf and root uptake more efficient.

Research has proven that phosphite can move from the leaves to the roots in the phloem in the form of phosphite to provide control of root diseases caused by Phytopthora fungi.

While phosphite can effectively control specific species of Oomycetes it has little effect on the majority of soil fungi.

As a foliar application the unique mode of action also makes AG-PHOS 400 SL a unique fungicide for the control of brown rot on citrus and downy mildew on grapes.

Research has proved that besides the direct mode of action of phosphite against fungal diseases, phosphite also has the ability to stimulate a plant’s natural defence response against pathogen attack.

TRIAL DATA:

Rolfes Agri conducted trials on large Clementine navel trees in the Western cape. This was a challenging trial for AG-PHOS 400 SL to recover these heavily Phytophthora root rot infected trees from the brink of dying.

During the trial it was clear that all the soil treatments with AG-PHOS 400 SL recorded similar and improved tree vigour results across the trial versus the untreated control treatment.

No leaf phytotoxicity or any signs of stem burn were recorded at any stage during these trials. Which indicates to producers how effective the use of AG-PHOS 400 SL is in treating infections but not causing damage to crops or effecting yield in the process.
