Forms: Group of words or phrases used to convey a particular

purpose or intente.g. - You are so kind - Could the report be sent by 10?

- Not to worry, the patient is fine(the purpose may be determined by the intonation and context in which it is used)

Functions in Communication Function: Is the purpose or intent for which the group of words or

phrases are used.e.g. - to express delight

- to express gratitude - to compliment

(it is often the function that decides the forms to be used)
