High Point Vent Installation with EDMAdaptable Technology for Customized Solutions

Challenge:• GL08 required the

venting of buildup gases in safety systems

Solution:• Performed hot

tapping of high point vent lines in safety injection lines

• EDM tool was used to machine an opening in the safety injection pipe suitable for venting the line

EDM process eliminates FME & can be adapted while system is

still in operation

Challenge:• Leak discovered in the 242-

25H Evaporator Vessel (used for waste processing) and unit was shut down

• The 25-H Evaporator Vessel is used for high grade waste processing of Tritium

Solution:• Phase I - Brokk remote

manipulator with a KUKA robot arm was outfitted with a Plasma Arc Cutting torch to remove insulation and expose vessel leak

• Phase II - Qualified laser powder weld technique used to perform Section III repair of evaporator leaks

BWR N16 Nozzle RepairEmergent Weld Repair

Challenge:• Leak identified during RPV system leak test at

end of refuel outage• ~1 pint/min• Leak originating from ~1 o’clock position within

the RPV shell bore• N16 nozzle is below water line and requires plug

from vessel ID for repair

Solution:• Repaired with Framatome half nozzle method• Mockups designed and fabricated to train

machinists & welders• Rapid mobilization of 79 personnel• Multiple FOAK tooling designed, tested &

implemented

EDG Shaft RepairReverse Engineering & Fabrication

Challenge:• Emergency

Diesel Generator bearing seized on the shaft

Solution:• Restored diameter

by installing a sleeve

• Refurbished damaged Inner and Outer closure covers

costs and long lead times

Challenge:• The jackscrew

was cracked along with other visible impact damages to the vent valve

machine out broken jack screws and remove the valve

• Seat surface was flush with valve body & would not allow disk to seat properly
