Fear

Page 3: Formal proposal

Primary Research NeededWe will need to find either a hypnotist or psychologist to interview about fear. Plus we will need to find people with a fear and a parent whose child has a fear and are willing to be interviewed. We will also need to find someone who is willing to confront their fear.

For internet research we could find what celebrities are afraid of and then get screen grabs of their answers from twitter. For more archive material we will take still photos of what people are afraid of and find out the most common fears. We will also research relevant horror film extracts for our documentary for the fear of death and find archive material of someone doing a bungee jump for the fear of heights. For the fear of spiders and other insects we could get clips from nature documentaries such as David Attenborough to use as archive material. Moreover we could research into psychology books about fear and children’s books about fear of the dark. For our documentary we want to use songs that are about or have something to do with fear for example: Lily Allen – The Fear and Nelly Furtado – Afraid, so we will have to research into this further.

Narrative Structure

We could start our documentary by filming some of the most popular fears such as spiders and deep water with the narration over the top as an introduction as well as tying the content together. Plus we could film these fears like deep water at the beach and film the sea, and a spider crawling on someone’s hand. Next we could do our vox pops asking people what they fear and what they used to fear as a child. In our documentary we could use still images of the most common fears and use clips from horror films that show fear. We would also want to interview a psychologist or a hypnotist to go into more depth about why we fear certain things and how we could overcome them. Moreover in our documentary we would want to interview a parent’s child who has a fear, a teenager and an adult (one with a fear of heights) to see how they compare. Therefore we would want to film either the adult or the teenager overcoming their fear of heights were they go up the Anglican Cathedral. Furthermore we would want to observe someone else facing their fear. Some other archive material we would want in our documentary would be books on psychology to do with fear so that we could inform our audience about the topic. Plus we can use children’s books about fear of the dark, as that is what most of our results said people used to fear as a child.
