What’s On for
Autumn 2018
5-7
Welcome back to another new
academic year. We would like to offer
a warm welcome to two schools new
to the Alliance this year, Ashby C of E
Primary and Ashby Hill Top Primary.
Good to have you on board.
We are delighted that
we have recruited 29
trainees to our SD
programme this year,
an increase of 8 on last
year - bucking the
national trend! Thanks
to Sheila Dennis
(Secondary Programme
Lead) and Heidi Malliff
(Primary Programme
Lead) for their
outstanding work with
School Direct Programme 2017/18
Once again we held our
School Direct
celebration event on a
lovely sunny evening at
the end of last term
with the obligatory
cake!
Nine of our eleven
Primary trainees and
seven out of ten
secondary trainees
secured a teaching post
School Direct Programme 2018/19
IT, NQT and RQT
trainees for
FWTSA. We are
so lucky to have
the support from
FWTSA schools in
mentoring and
supporting
trainees.
Don’t forget to put a
link to the ITT pages
on our website from
your website if you have not
done so already. Email

Our first School Direct
Information Event for this year
was held on Wednesday 4
October at Forest Way
School and was very well
attended.
We have three other events
booked, two at local schools
during the daytime and

Conference

on Behaviour.
SENCO Conference
8 March 2019 with a focus on
Assessment.
Details and booking
arrangements will be sent out
very soon.
We have designed a fantastic
programme of CPD for
FWTSA schools this year,
following the feedback we
have received, and are
delighted to offer the following
new programmes:
Leading a Great School -
Led by Gill Weston using up
to the minute and reobust
research to support your
school improvement.
NPQML, SL & H - we are
now running these
programmes in conjunction
with Thomas Estley Learning
Alliance and have a bursary for
FWTSA schools to reduce
costs.
We have two conferences
focussing on SEND coming up
in the new year, both at
another in the evening at
Forest Way.
These events have proved to
be one of the best ways to
promote our Teacher Training
Programme and recruit
trainees teachers to eventually
work in Alliance schools.
We would appreciate it if
schools could also promote
these events, to staff members
and parents. Please contact
you would like us to send you
promotional materials to
include in your newsletters.
Dates:
30 October 2018 1.30 to 3.00pm at Castle Rock High School (Secondary)
1 November 2018 1.45 to 3.00pm at Whitwick St John the Baptist Primary (Primary/Special)
16 January 2019 5.00 to 6.30pm at Forest Way School (Primary/Special & Secondary)
Unfortunately the 2 most re-
cent Leicestershire SSIF bids
were unsuccessful and the DfE
has now closed down this pro-
gramme.
Our two current programmes
on literacy will continue until
March 2019.

Research Groups

FWTSA Board
The Board works in a similar
way to a school Governing
Body. It meets every half term
and oversees the work of the
Alliance, including strategic
direction, allocation of
resources, membership and
support for schools.
No More Marking Working
Group
This working group was put
together to allow colleagues in
both secondary and primary
settings to come together, to
explore and navigate the latest
research around reducing
workload in schools,
particularly around marking.
The group is facilitated by
SLE’s, but each member of the
group will take on joint
responsibility for
supplementing the research
shared with the group, with
what they have discovered for
themselves. Colleagues are
encouraged to share anything
new that they find with the
group in the spirit of
collaboration which is at the
heart of the alliance. Each
member will then go on to
trial alternative ways of
providing feedback back in
their own schools and to share
their findings. The ultimate
aim is that by the end of the
project we will have a bank of
ideas that have worked/ not
worked in a variety of
different contexts, which
can be built upon and shared
throughout the alliance and
beyond.
'Coming together is a beginning, keeping together is progress, working together is
success!' Henry Ford

School Direct Class of 2017/18
Following the many requests
we have received from schools
to have Educational Psychology
Reports sent electronically, we
worked with the Psychologists,
the IT Manager and admin staff
to develop a procedure that
would conform to GDPR and
LA requirements for sending
pupil information by email.
We will now send EP Reports
in pdf format by encrypted
email to the email address
provided by the school at the
time of the EP visit.
Schools can then print out
copies to send to parents and
other interested parties.
New procedure for Educational Psychologist reports
Forest Way Teaching School Alliance now have four
Educational Psychologists on the team. Morag
Gornall, Karen Booth-Clibborn, Rachel Griffiths and
Sarah Godwin are available to work with schools
within the alliance.
