Ms. Geraldine Ferraro Congresswoman House of Representatives Washington, D. C.

Dear Mrs. Ferraro:

July 30, 1984

I am wondering if you are aware of any group or organization in the United States that might be working towards having a nationally recognized decal or symbol made up that people who are carrying a child, or children, may affix to the rear window of their motor vehicle~.

With the high speeds that motorists are travelling (not too many observe the 55 m.p.h. law) it frightens me to think that we have to travel with our children, or in my case, grandchildren, in our cars and subject them to the terrible risks of auto accidents because drivers become maniacs behind the wheel of a car and some of these drivers are also parents!

I think such a decal or symbol might help to at least deter a few of the careless drivers.

Much has been done by way of enacting laws for seat belts and infant car seats but much more has to be done to slow us all down on the highways. If necessary the federal government should do more to force the states to comply with tougher laws for highway safety. We have to stop the killing and maiming on the hi ghways.

ou do know of some organization who is actively working on such a decal or symbol for ren in a motor vehicle, please 1 et me know as I would want to help promote it. If you do not know of such an organization, please give me some ideas on starting such a movement and any help you" can give.

Much luck to you in your campaign for the Vice Presidency and you may be assured of my support and the support of my family.

Sincerely yours,

Darien, Conn.
