Ford Madox Ford and The Devils DiscipleI will start saying that the meaning of gentleman is a man who has a superior social position, like gentle or noble birth or it would be, a well-mannered and considerate man with high standards of proper behavior. In this case I think that the meaning of gentleman is the first definition that I wrote. For which I read, I think that Hemingway admired to Ford Madox Ford because he was interested in the opinion of Ford about if he is or not a gentleman, and if other people were gentlemen too. Be or not a gentleman is something of each persons perception, because Ford said that he had held his majestys commission and with that, he was a gentleman. But in my opinion I think that he wasnt, he contradicted because at first time he was saying that drink brandy is fatal for a young writer, but at the end he said that he will drink brandy, maybe Ford was no a young writer but, if he said that, I suppose he had a very good reason to tell that about brandy. Then he told to Hemingway, what men were gentlemen, but I think that its only his opinion, Hemingway shouldnt trust in Ford on his opinions and definitions about gentleman. For me, a gentleman dont judge other persons, maybe is only his opinion but I mean, if he was telling to Hemingway who was a gentleman or not was one, I think that he knows that he would planting a bad seed I think that he was only giving his own opinion but at the same time he knew that Hemingway would think the same thing that Ford said, he was trusting in something that maybe was not true.
