• WARNING: Extreme care should be taken to avoid bodily harm during installation. Before beginning, ensure engine is cool to avoid burns. Never work in the engine compartment with the engine running. It is advised that you perform a full oil change with installation of this system.

B. ATTACHING FILTER MOUNT1. Survey the engine compartment for possible mounting locations. Themountshouldbelocatedasclosetotheexistingfull-flowfilteraspossible.Selectanareawherethefiltrationsystemwillnotbe damaged by road debris or off-road travel, and make sure the mountingstructureisadequatetocarrytheweightofthefiltrationsystem. Reference Diagram A for an approximation of space requiredformountingthesystemandremovingfilters.ReferenceDiagram B for appropriate mounting angles.
2.Whenthemountinglocationhasbeendetermined,puttheprovidedmounting template sticker in place. Using a center punch and hammer, mark the centers of the drilling locations.
3.Install(2)fittingadapters(BP208)intothe“IN”and“OUT”oftheBK303 using provided thread sealant as noted in Diagram C. If desired,90°anglefitting(BP52)mayalsobeused.Tightenfittings2-3turnsbeyondfinger-tight.Keepinmindthedirectionyouwishto have the hoses intersect the mount.
4.Witha5/16”drillbit,drillthecenter-punchedholesonthetemplate,removethestickerandattachtheBK303usingthe(3)5/16”bolts,nuts, small washer and fender washers provided. Use a wrench to hold either the nut or bolt in place; use the socket and torque wrenchontheoppositeendtotightento16-18ft-lbs.
5. Fill the Bypass Filter element with the same engine oil being used inthevehicle.Lubricatethefiltergasketwithoilandspinfilterontomount.Tightenperinstructionsonthefilter.
C. OIL SUPPLY• NOTE:Thehoseandhosefittingssuppliedwiththiskitarematched
to provide maximum performance and life expectancy. Interchanging with other types or brands is not recommended and should be avoided. Should additional hose be required, it may be obtained from AMSOILbyorderingpartnumberBP251bythefoot.
• DO NOT install oil hoses near hot exhaust parts or near sharp metal components that could cause abrasive wear.
• DO NOT create sharp bends in oil hoses when installing.
1.Locatetheoilfiltercapthathousesthevehicle’sengineoilfilter.2.Slowlyremovetheoilfiltercap,makingsuretheoildrainsfromthehousing.Itispreferredthatyouperformacompleteoilandfilterchange when installing a bypass system.
3.InstalltheBK1101usinga36mmsocket,makingsureanewfull-flowfilterisinthehousing,andtightenthecapto19ft-lbs.
4.InstallaBP242intotheBK1101withthreadsealantasnotedinDiagramC.WhileholdingtheBK1101,tightentheBP242by2-3turnsbeyondfinger-tight.Keepinmindthedirectionyouwishthehose to intersect.
5.Measuretheamountofhose(BP251)requiredtoroutefromtheBK1101tothefiltermountfittinglabeledIN. Additional length will be required to accommodate engine movement during operation.

6.HOSE FITTING ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONSa. Using a utility knife or hose cutter, squarely cut the hose to the properlength(Step6a).
b. InstallBP261onbothendsofthecuthose.Screwnutportionofthefittingcounter-clockwiseontohoseuntilitbottoms.Backhoseout1/2turn(Step6b).
Note: Do not use any form of thread sealant anywhere on the hose fittings(BP261).
c. Oil tapered nipple thread areas liberally with oil. You may also oil insideofhose.Donotoilhosecover(Step6c).
d. Screw nipple thread into socket using wrench on nipple hex until nipplehexshouldersagainstsocket(Steps6d,6e,6f).
7. Route and connect the hose assembly. Ensureaminimumofa3⁄4”bendradius is maintained. Also, bends in hoseshouldnotbeginathosefittings.On both ends of the hose assembly, tightenthenutoftheBP261finger-tight.Placeamarkontheridgebetweentwoflats.Startingfromthisposition, tighten the nut further by two flatsor1/3ofaturnusingonewrenchtoholdtheBP208(orBP242)andtheothertoturnthenutontheBP261.(Aflatisreferredtoasonesideofthehexagonaltubenutandequatesto1/6of a turn.)
Caution: Do not introduce a twist to the hose when tightening the BP261totheBP208(orBP242).
D. OIL RETURN LINE INSTALLATIONa.Removetheexistingoilfillercap.BesurethereisnotaPCV
pick-up in this area.
b.Installafittingadapter(BP242)intothereturnlineswivelfittingwith thread sealant as noted in Diagram C. Tighten 2-3 turns beyondfinger-tight.
c. Install the BK1102, making sure to properly screw it into the oil fillport.
d.Measuretheamountofhose(BP251)youwillneedtoroutefromtheBK1102tothefiltermountfittinglabeledOUT. Additional length will be required to accommodate engine movement during operation. Using a utility knife, squarely cut the hose to the proper length.
e.InstallBP261onbothendsofthehose.SeeSectionC.6.Routeandconnectthehoseassembly.Ensureaminimumofa3⁄4”bendradius is maintained. Also, bends in hose should not begin at hose fittings.Onbothendsofthehoseassembly,tightenthenutoftheBP261finger-tight.Placeamarkontheridgebetweentwoflats.Startingfromthisposition,tightenthenutfurtherbytwoflatsor1/3ofaturnusingonewrenchtoholdtheBP208(orBP242)andtheothertoturnthenutontheBP261.(Aflatisreferredtoasonesideofthehexagonaltubenutandequatesto1/6ofaturn.)f.Useplasticties(BP46)tosecurehosesinpositionandawayfrom
damage. Trim ties.
Note: Over tightening the plastic ties may cause the hose to collapse andrestrictoilflow.
E. START UP PROCEDURES1.Checkthatallfittingsandhosesaresecurely
attached, and that the hoses are routed properly.
2. Check engine oil level. Fill to full mark on engine dipstick.
3.Withtheequipmentsecuredstarttheengineandimmediatelycheckoil pressure. Note:Pressuremayinitiallytakeamomentortwotorise.
Caution: Carefullycheckforleaksatfittings,hosesandmount.Ifleaksare observed, STOP ENGINE IMMEDIATELY, repair leaks and continue.
4. After engine has warmed, shut off and re-check engine oil level. Fill as necessary.
5. Record vehicle mileage/operating hours and date of installation.
F. PERIODIC MAINTENANCE1.Duringthewarrantyperiod,annuallyinspectthefittingsandhoses.
Check for leaks, hose deterioration and cuts. Repair and/or replace as necessary.SeetheAMSOILLimitedWarranty–BypassFilterSystemsat www.amsoil.com for complete information.
2.Refertorecommendedfilterchangeintervalsforservicingintervals.3.Tochangethebypassfilterelement:a.Ensureengineisoffandusecautionastheengine,oilandfilter
may be hot and could result in an injury.b.Usingafilterwrench,removethefilterelement.Disposeof
properly.c.Cleanthefiltergasketcontactareaonthemountwithaclean,
lint-free rag.d.Lubricatethenewfiltergasketwithcleanoil.e.Fillfilterasfullaspossiblewiththesameoilbeingusedin
the engine.f.Screwonnewfilter,tightenperinstructionsonthefilter.g. Start engine and check for leaks.h.Checkengineoillevel,fillasneeded.
4. Record date of installation and equipment operating hours or mileage for future reference.
