Joining Tops Day Nurseries as a Work Experience student is an exciting opportunity

for students to gain valuable experience and knowledge by completing a placement in one of the largest nursery chains across the south coast!

What jobs would I be doing?

Assisting with the planning of fun day activities

Ensuring that games the children play run smoothly and fairly

Participating in arts and crafts

Reading stories

Clearing up equipment/toys in between activities, mealtimes, garden times etc.

General caring interaction with the children

What can I get out of a childcare work experience?

You will receive experience within the Early Years Childcare sector

and develop a better understanding of the role and environment

You can apply for full or part-time work with children ages 0-5 years

Veterinary nurses support vets in providing nursing care for sick, injured and hospitalised animals. They also play an important role in educating owners on good standards of animal care and welfare. If you love animals and want to look after their health, this could be ideal for you. In this job, you'll

need to be calm and confident when handling animals. You’ll also need to be sympathetic when dealing with upset or nervous owners. You can qualify as a veterinary nurse either through work-

based training or by taking a higher education qualification.

Entry Requirements: You can qualify as a veterinary nurse through work-based training or by completing a higher education course. Both of these routes allow you to register as a veterinary nurse with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS). You'll need this registration to find work. You'll normally need some GCSEs or equivalent qualifications to get onto an advanced apprenticeship or college course. These include:

5 GCSEs (A*-C) including maths, English and a science

Level 2 Diploma for Veterinary Nursing Assistants plus some GCSEs.

To get on to a higher education course you'll usually need:

at least two A levels, preferably in chemistry and/or biology, or equivalent qualifications

at least five GCSEs (A*-C) including English, maths and a science

Evidence of relevant work experience - paid or voluntary.

A Carillion Apprenticeship is a great way to start a career in the construction industry - with very little costs involved. Carillion is recognised as one of the best construction training providers in the country. You need to be 16 – 18 to start with us and you do not need any qualifications. We recruit male and females in Bricklaying and Carpentry/Joinery offering NVQ Level 1 - 3 qualifications in our Southampton Training Centre with the support of real life construction Employers -There is no need to attend a college, it’s all covered in our training centre

Level 1 is 15 weeks, paying £30 pw learner allowance ,giving you comprehensive blended classroom and practical training to learn about the construction trade, H&S training and Maths and English functional skills if your grades are below level C. You are assigned an assessor for the duration of your training and we train and award your CSCS card – free of charge to give you access to work safely on sites whilst gaining work experience. We give you full Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including boots, hard hat, hi -vis, gloves, safety glasses, masks and ear protection - all completely free of charge.

Level 2 12 -15 Months paying £122.10 pw offers a combination of classroom and on site training with construction Employers (who we find for you) providing real life working experience and expert advice in your chosen trade. Your assessor will visit you on site to help gather your evidence for your qualifications.

You are provided with a comprehensive tool kit to start you off in your chosen field and to use during your 'on site' work experience during Level 2.

Level 3 can give you more intricate skills and gain supervisory experience, leading onto employment opportunities as site supervisors. From this, some of our apprentices have gone onto university for graphic designing/architecture degrees.

At this Level, you will be paid £149.85 pw which could rise to the NMW limit if you have been with us a year and reached the age of 19

91 % of the last round of Southampton apprentices have successfully gained their qualifications and gone into sustainable employment as a result of our training programme, with an earning potential of £16,000 - £32,000 per annum

a traineeship is a course designed to prepare you for one.

You can apply for a traineeship if you’re: Eligible to work in England

unemployed and have little or no work experience aged 16 to 18 and qualified below Level 3, or aged 19 to 24 and qualified below

Level 2

A traineeship is a course to get you ready for work or an apprenticeship. It can take up to 6 months.

You’ll get: Help with English and maths (if you need it)

a work experience placement lasting at least 6 weeks

You won’t be paid, but your employers can sometimes give you expenses for things like travel and meals.

School leaving age

You can leave school on the last Friday in June, as long as you’ll have turned 16 by the end of that school year’s summer holidays. However, you may need to stay in some form of education or training for longer.
