New & Used AUTO Loan rates starting as low as

2.99% APR *APR is Annual Percentage Rate. Rates to be determined by qualifications, terms & conditions apply.

According to the Federal Trade Commission, there has been a steady increase over the last three years in the number of complaints involving fake checks. In order to protect yourself, here are a few tips to help avoid these scams:

•Mystery shopper checks to be deposited into your personal account with instructions to wire it to someone else.

•Car-wrap advertising checks where you mail funds to a decal installer (who doesn’t exist)

•Sweepstake winnings where you’re instructed to send money to cover taxes, shipping and other fees.

These fake checks, once deposited, can sometimes take weeks to be discovered and you will be stuck having to pay the funds back. If you ever have questions or are unsure of a check you receive, please contact us here at the credit union. We’re happy to assist!

The SECURE Act was signed into law on December 20, 2019 and many of the Act’s provisions took effect on January 1, 2020.

New age for Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs)

The age when RMDs from Traditional IRAs must generally begin is increased from age 70-1/2 to age 72. If you already turned age 70-1/2 by the end of 2019, then RMDs cannot be delayed under the new rule.

New distribution requirements for non-spouse IRA beneficiaries

For IRA owner deaths in 2020 or later, most non-spouse beneficiaries of IRAs will generally be required to distribute inherited amounts within 10 years. There are some exceptions to this rule.

Change to the allowable age for contributions

Taxpayers with earned income can make Traditional IRA contributions at any age, not just the years before reaching 70-1/2 which was the previous requirement.

We’re excited to announce our new program to help encourage our younger members to make frequent deposits into their savings account. It’s called the Deposit Stamp program and will work like this: On their next visit to the credit union, we’ll give

them a Deposit Stamp card. Each time they make a deposit of $10 or more, we’ll stamp their card. Once a Kirby member’s card is filled, they can turn it in for a prize.

Make the most out of your

TAX Refund!

Our IRA’s or Share Certificates can earn a higher interest APY. *

During the month of April, we’re celebrating Youth Month. The theme this year is “The Science of Saving,” showcasing fun, sci-fi inspired char-acters. Science has proven that if you start with small goals, saving your money can become a regular habit. Every child dreams about their future. Some of those dreams may require money to come true. How do you help your children achieve their dreams?

One way is to help them learn how to save their money. To get your children into the savings habit, start by having them cut out pictures of something they’d like to have someday and post the images where they’ll see them often. Then help them open a savings at United 1st FCU if they don’t already have one. Encourage your child to make reg-ular small deposits each week and learn about the science of saving.

By the middle of March this year, United 1st Federal Credit Union had to make the tough decision to close our branch lobbies for the safety and protection of our members and staff. We all quickly adapted and found creative ways to service members through the drive-thru, online, and over the phone. Some of these initiatives will remain with us over the coming months and will, in fact, provide a greater level of convenience and efficiency.

##wweeCCUUggrraaddss ooff 22002200!!!! Your graduation year has been like none other. You have been strong and resilient, and you have taught all of us to find new perspective and ways of achieving our goals. We applaud and congratulate you! As you venture on in your journey, we want to assure you that we will be here for you every step of the way… from our online banking and mobile app, to our network of nationwide ATM’s, to auto loans and mortgage options, and even investment vehicles as you start your early savings toward future retirement. From all of us at United 1st, best wishes for much success!

While the shelter-in-place order created a great deal of disconnect and uncertainty, we also found our communities pulling together like never before and working for the greater good. Here at United 1st, we were pleased to be able to make monetary donations to several local food pantries including the Helping Hands Food Pantry (Camden County), The Christian Life Center (Dodge County), Pierce County Food Pantry, Destination Church Food Bank (Ware County), and Charlton County BOE Grab-n-Go student lunches. In addition, we launched an initiative entitled “1,000 Rays of Hope” where all of our staff wrote letters of encouragement to our at-risk elderly citizens,

as well as our front line workers and first responders. We are very proud of their spirit of cooperation and volunteerism!
