The son of the Mikado has exiled himself after he learns he must marry Katisha instead of his beloved Yum-Yum, who is bequeathed to her guardian Ko-Ko. But happiness is attained at the end of a series of misadventures for the lovesick foursome in Gilbert & Sullivan’s satirical Operetta. Carl Rosa Opera’s new production of The Mikado is a historic re-creation of the original authorized Savoy production of 1885. Gilbert’s authenticated prompt book is the source for the direction, staging, and choreography. This production presents a faithful reproduction of the original stage settings, together with historic costumes.
