Our vision is to provide an inclusive space where people of all backgrounds can meet and worship together whilst serving the most vulnerable in our society. We aspire to be uncompromising champions of the arts by solidifying our campus as a cathedral of creativity, a home for those who seek beauty in all things. We plan to use profits from the venue to fund our mission which includes our homeless care, food bank and youth work.

As part of Hackney Church’s vision, St John-at-Hackney Church, the iconic Parish Church of Hackney, has undergone a multi-million pound restoration project supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund in collaboration with architectural designer and ‘father of modern architectural minimalism’ John Pawson CBE (Abbey of Our Lady of Nový Dvůr/Design Museum), acclaimed visual artist Es Devlin OBE and awarding-winning architectural practice Thomas Ford & Partners.

Our building and grounds are perfect for a variety of filming, photography and unit base briefs. All hirers can expect a dramatic and adaptable backdrop that includes production offices and dressing rooms, parking for a range of vehicle types, fantastic transport links and access to a commercial kitchen.

The 1800-capacity main hall and central part of the building, a beautiful, vast, minimalist space designed by John Pawson OBE. Notable features include a 19th Century working organ, bespoke lighting features and a beautiful stained glass window designed by Christopher Webb.

Shared Sky gathers footage of the sky from different locations around the world - the locations that experience divergent climatic, social and political conditions - on two opposing LED screens. By placing one sky above the other in a collection of pairs, the work seeks to foster dialogue and debate around a series of global issues. It is an invitation to reflect on the experiences of different people, in different places, at different times.

Historically chapter rooms played an important role in ecclesial and monastic life as a place of meeting, distribution of daily work, sharing of news and public confessions. As the only space untouched by our recent restoration project, the Chapter Room has retained a historic and communal feeing, offering a warm, authentic space flooded with light that is perfect for intimate performances and photo-shoots.

For hundreds of years our green spaces have provided an oasis of calm in the heart of the city. Today, we’re bringing life to the city with a thriving Apiary, Garden, Orchard and much more. Hackney Church Gardens is a unique space for outdoor concerts, media, market stalls, festivals and fetes while providing a thriving ecological environment that gives back to the local community.

The centre piece of the newly built Hackney Garden’s development - Hackney Church House boasts a range of spaces from a 240-capacity hall to workspaces, meeting rooms, a courtyard and a commercial kitchen. At Hackney Church you can be assured of prime location parking in a secure and secluded environment. We can accommodate parking for 14 vehicles in a gated lot around the church building. We have ample space to support a range of vehicle types including articulated lorries and OB vans.

In addition, the church is supported by a small car park with 29 spaces, which is currently run as a 24 hr pay-and-display car park (excluding Sunday), managed by JustPark.

Lighthouse is a social outreach charity run by Hackney Church that serves vulnerable people across East London. We provide practical holistic support to our guests, helping in crisis and pointing towards a hope-filled future.

We have been feeding, loving and caring for the poor and marginalised in East London since 2016. In 2020 alone we fed over 200,000 meals to those in need and worked with a range of partners to deliver high quality, nutritious food including Patty & Bun and MORO.

Located a stones throw from the main church building, Hackney Church Brew Co. is an exciting and dynamic brewpub with a vision to bring people together through great beer and delicious food whilst giving back to local community. Formed in partnership with Hackney Church back in 2016, HCBC have won a devoted following around Hackney Central and acclaim from The Guardian’s Jay Rayner, Time-Out and The Evening Standard.

We are excited to be working with HCBC on bringing locally sourced craft beer to performances and live events at Hackney Church. A percentage of all profits will go into our work with those struggling with alcoholism and homelessness.
