. Call for Chapters. for the edited volume . Voiced and Voiceless in Asia. Title: Voiced and Voiceless in Asia Editors: Halina Zawiszová, Martin Lavička, František Kratochvíl Series: Olomouc Asian Studies Series Publisher: Palacký University Olomouc Type of publication: Online open access & Print on demand Language of publication: English Expected publication date: 2021/2022 The theme of ‘voice’ and ‘power’ – embodied in the title of the volume – is generally acknowledged as an important and a highly complex one. In the Asian context, a number of often closely intertwined issues come to mind, including such topics as the relationship between those that govern and those that are governed, the dominant social groups and minorities, those that are promoted and those that are marginalized, the mainstream culture and the subcultures, the official and the non-official, the standard and the varieties, the canonical and the apocryphal, as well as a range of means that are used to maintain or subvert such relationships, assert or acquire power, give or suppress voice, etc. The intention is for this volume to accumulate different approaches to the general theme. Therefore, we welcome contributions that concern any region in Asia and focus on the theme from a variety of perspectives, including linguistics, literature, arts, cultural studies, media studies, sociology, anthropology, history, philosophy, political science, international relations, cultural geography, and other fields. The volume is based on the highly successful 14th Annual Conference on Asian Studies (14-ACAS, http ://acas.upol.cz) organized by the Department of Asian Studies at Palacký University Olomouc. The conference was held online on November 20–21, 2020. However, the volume is open to any submissions that have not previously been published elsewhere, including those that were not presented at the conference but do fit the stated theme. We invite extended abstracts in English dealing with any issues that are relevant to the general theme as expressed in the volume’s title and described above. The abstracts should be emailed to olas@ upol.cz as a PDF file. The file should include the title of the paper, the author’s full name, affiliation, e-mail address, keywords, and the abstract, which must be 500–1,000 words long. The abstract submission deadline is January 15, 2021. Decisions on the abstracts will be sent by the end of January 2021. The submission deadline for full papers based on the accepted abstracts is April 30, 2021. The required length of the full papers is approximately 10– 11,000 words (excluding references, tables, etc. from the word count). The papers will subsequently undergo a standard double-blind peer-review process. The estimated date of publication is late 2021/early 2022. Any questions can be addressed to halina [email protected]. We are looking forward to your submissions!
