Caroline Clegg DirectorLionel Friend ConductorLouie Whitemore Set & Costume DesignerDavy Cunningham Lighting Designer
Two contrasting pieces united by the figure of Death.
In 1916 Holst’s keen interest in eastern mysticism led him to consult the epic ancient Indian text, the Mahabarata, and write Savitri, the first English chamber opera since the 17th century. Death presents himself to Savitri and demands the life of her husband Satyavan. Is Savitri clever enough to outwit Death?
By contrast, The Emperor of Atlantis is a previously banned political satire written in the Czech concentration camp of Terezin in the 1940s. Although written with clear parallels to Hitler, it has also been described as a parable of hope, and is still relevant to our modern world.

Into The New is one of the most important contemporary performance festivals in Scotland. It is produced and performed by students on the BA Contemporary Performance Practice programme, and explorers radical practices and identity through intimacy, memory and immersion. This year's festival is set to be one of the most dynamic, thought provoking and challenging yet.
Over the four years of study students are engaged in a transformative programme which explores ways in which human beings make art in order to better understand the world. Expect provocative ideas, radical silences and beautiful chaos from a vibrant group of Scotland’s most exciting emerging artists. Emily Reutlinger Director
How many ages henceShall this our lofty scene be acted over,In states unborn and accents yet unknown? - Cassius, Act 3 Scene 1Julius Caesar, having conquered lands and leaders alike, returns to Rome where he’s been named dictator-for-life. The people proclaim him a king, a god. Yet there are some who worry this concentration of power betrays the very civilization they have worked to build – igniting a cycle of politics and violence that has never felt more contemporary. Shakespeare’s gripping political thriller asks: When the will of the many endangers the nation, what are the few to do?

Andrew MacGregor Director
Twelfth Night is one of Shakespeare's most beloved plays. A tale of love, lies and lascivious lechery. Orsino is lonely, Olivia is mourning, Malvolio is jealous, Viola is in hiding and Sir Toby is most probably drunk. When these timeless characters’ worlds clash sparks start to fly, hearts get broken and disastrous fashion-crimes are committed...
The second year BA Actors bring this hilarious story to life with song, dance and mountains of immoral merriment.

From 20 MarTitus Andronicus By William ShakespeareMA CLASSICAL AND CONTEMPORARY TEXT
Gordon Barr Director
Titus Andronicus returns home a hero from a brutal 10-year war with the Goths, having devoted his life to serving Rome. However the city he comes back to has changed beyond his comprehension. When Titus sacrifices a Goth prisoner, eldest son of their queen, Tamora, he sets in motion a terrifying chain of events which will destroy his family, his city and his own sanity.
Rape, murder, mutilation and cannibalism are the gruesome tools of Shakespeare’s earliest and bloodiest tragedy - a damning indictment of cycles of revenge and a stark warning for today’s society.
Please note: This production contains scenes of graphic violence, including sexual violence which some may find distressing and may not be suitable for children under 14 years of age.

“I hear your heart beat Wendla. No matter where I am, I hear it beating.”
Winner of 8 Tony awards, 4 Oliviers and a Grammy for Best Original Cast Album, Spring Awakening redefined the boundaries between music and theatre with its fusion of adolescent angst-fuelled anthems.A group of emotionally unprepared teenagers try to understand their strong, new, thrilling and scary feelings. What’s right and what’s wrong?
What are the rules? How far can they be pushed and what happens when you break them? Desires, emotions and hormones smash and explode in this hard-hitting punk-rock musical.
This amateur production is presented by arrangement with Music Theatre International (Europe) All authorised performance materials are also supplied by MTI Europe www.mtishows.co.uk

25 Feb Peter & The Wolf / Carnival Of The Animals Scottish National Jazz Orchestra
Tommy Smith DirectorMakoto Ozone Piano
The SNJO presents new interpretations of two universally popular children’s classics in a concert that will appeal to all ages.
Tommy Smith’s jazz version of Peter and the Wolf will remain true to Prokofiev’s premise that particular instruments are allocated to each character and the wonderful melodies will be lovingly preserved whilst actor Tam Dean Burn will narrate new text specially adapted by Liz Lochhead.
Makoto Ozone's vivid re-imagining of Saint-Saëns’ Carnival of the Animals for jazz instrumentation will delight listeners and bring the composer’s animal cavalcade to life in ways that not even Saint-Saëns himself could possibly have imagined.

Receiving this scholarship has enabled me to pursue my studies wholeheartedly. It has granted me
a freedom to practice and focus on improving my technique and craft. I feel very lucky indeed to have been able to take advantage of everything the opera
school has had to offer. Stefan Berkieta, MMus Opera student
