Approve Purchase of New Undercover I)rug Enforcement Vehicle via State Contract

PROPOSAL:The Fayetteville Police Department was awarded $25,000 from bhe2012 Arkansas State Police Asset

Forfeiture Grant for the purchase of a new drug enforcement vehicle. Typically, used vehicles are purchased

for drug enforcement operations; however, the level of grant funding awarded has allowed us to purchase a new

vehicle under the state contract. The pick-up truck to be purchased is a 4x4 due to the rural areas and rugged

terrain within our jurisdictional boundaries of Washington and Madison Counties. This type of vehicle is also

needed for its' storage, hauling capacity, and for transporting large items of evidence associated with meth labs

and marijuana growing operations.

RECOMMENDATION:Staff recommends approval of the purchase of a new undercover drug enforcement vehicle from

Springdale Dodge, via state contract, using grant funds awarded from the 2012 Arkansas State Police Asset

Forfeiture Grant in the amount of 524,200. If you have any questions, please contact me at extension 500.

BUDGET IMPACT:This is a budgeted purchase using grant funds previously awarded specifically for a new drug

enforcement vehicle.

Section 1. That the City Council of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas hereby approvesthe purchase of one (1) 2013 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck from Springdale Dodge in theamount of $24,200.00, pursuant to a state procurement contract, for use by the PoliceDepartment.
